In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

I was thinking this morning about small-town No Kings protests. In April, I door knocked for the WI Supreme Court race in a rural area. Most of the people I talked to thought they were the only non-Trumper in their neighborhood, and many were wrong. I hope some of them found that out yesterday.

I must say this as clearly as possible: if you have, in the last ten years, thought "I just don't get tech" or that you're "getting old" or "you're not technical," you are the victim - so much of the tech industry is now oriented around making you do stuff rather than doing stuff for you.
I was seriously relieved when I started listening to your podcast and realized my increasing levels of frustration with modern tech are not because I'm getting older (I'm only 40 for gods's sake!) but because everything is actively getting worse. 🫠

There is a lot to be scared about, and things are going to get bad for a while.

But there is a WIDE range of bad that's possible, and how bad it gets is going to be almost entirely dependent on how much we fight back and gum up the gears.

Fascism RELIES on us giving up to fulfill its aspirations.
I am trying to be patient because I 100% get that people are terrified but I am really struggling with all this knee-jerk public defeatism from other liberals and leftists right now

It’s perfectly legitimate to mourn the loss of what users had made Twitter into but social media has always been an iterative space. Platforms die and the networks we build on there get disrupted. Don’t let your grief lead you to actions that are inconsistent with your stated values. 🤷🏿‍♀️

Buckle up, you got this! Make your stories+art+ love loudly because that=resistance. They want you to think you will die+that there is no hope. ITS A LIE. FIGHT with all your art+ all your heart. Your ancestors did. You are here because of them. Archaeology teaches us that we last and they die. FIN

In full-on avoidance mode of, well, everything, I stumbled across a YouTube account that shows medical removal of excessive/impacted earwax. It’s oddly fascinating and satisfying to watch the wax come out.

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism.

We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive

Aragorn: not if we hold true to each other. We will not abandon Merry and Pippin to torture and death. Let’s hunt some Orc.
