Mamoru Oshii, the director of legendary anime movie Ghost in the Shell, has said that he's played Fallout 4 for 10,000 hours while avoiding its main quest. https://bit.ly/4aud4Hh

I only became aware of this Peanuts page in the past few years. I think if you asked me for my top five pages of comics, this would have to be on there.

Even without the added context of Schulz's imminent passing, that final line hits like a truck.
Here's the full comic, from January 2, 2000. It was the last strip that featured Peppermint Patty, arguably Peanuts greatest character. Schulz died six weeks after it was published. It's perfection.

I watched this video this morning and highly recommend you do too.
Must-watch: A powerful performance of a pro-immigrant Shakespeare speech by Sir Ian McKellen on Colbert's show; it resonates powerfully today. "This is the strangers' case; And this your mountainish inhumanity." [kottke.org]
The Strangers’ Case
I don’t normally say this, but if you watch one thing on kottke.org today, this week, this month, make it this speech written by Shakespeare and performed by Sir Ian McKellen on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

We gotta get this in the Olympics now
During part of this we discussed Alpine Luge, which is an amazing sliding sport that sadly is not in the Olympics.

Anyway, here's what that looks like, with one of the greatest to ever doing it giving the demonstration down the track in Deutschnofen

I regret to inform you that “1979” by Smashing Pumpkins was released in 1996, which is now 30 years ago. Meaning a similar song released in 2026 would be called “2009”
