This week, I withdrew from a speaking engagement at a public university because they sent me a list of prohibited “words & concepts.” I will not humor this censorship. It does a disservice to the stories I’m discussing & the audience, who deserve unfettered access to information & conversation.

It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick.

It's hard to get neurotypicals to understand "I didn't do the task because I was so intensely aware of the need to do this that my brain built a wall around the concept of doing it", so we just say "I didn't do the task because I forgot."

You know when you fail at something, and it was just a little thing meant to be fun with 0 pressure/negative outcome for failing, but it triggers some sort of deep-seated childhood trauma for you, and you end up hiding in the bathroom crying your eyes out? No? It’s just me?
