Reading paper with link to deposited data in Dryad, but link didn't work. Author said they'd deposited data thinking it was free, but were then asked to pay. They didn't & Dryad took data down. So DOI doesn't ensure a persistent dataset. Has anyone else experience of anything like this?

I think it's hard to overstate how much Simine has changed research practices and standards in psychology for the better, despite at times massive resistance from powerful parties with a vested interest in maintaining the status quo. Very well deserved award imho 🥳

It's my favorite day! It's the 38th anniversary of the Max Headroom signal broadcast intrusion!

1st incident lasted 25s during the 9PM news on WGN-TV in Chicago; The 2nd, 2hrs later, lasted ~90s on PBS affiliate WTTW during Dr. Who.

A question for scientists (construed as broadly as you like) of BlueSky: What makes something data?

(Question inspired by a talk I listened to this morning, and of course I have thoughts, but I wanted to throw this out there first.)

My #rstats cheat code for today is the binom.confint function in the binom package that will spit out *12* different ways of calculating a CI for a proportion.

Also, this is why you use R for statistics...

(and of course the correct CI method is bayes 😎)

I think this is an overly pessimistic take from the @bmj.com.

Sharing data does not inherently increase trust, rather it enables verification which allows for trust calibration.

This example is a win. Serious issues were rapidly detected that would not have been without mandatory data sharing.

Hey #rstats,

Are there any good tricks for deciding on sensible dimensions for a plot when saving it?

Or does everyone just tweak the dimensions in ggsave() until it looks right?

We analyzed 11,384 datasets (2013–2024): They're findable, but less reusable!
