How do you write/read this & not be appalled that (blue state) Senators - constitutionally created to protect the sovereign states from Federal overreach - are solely focused on (clinging to their) healthcare (woobie) with their rare lever of power? Their clients are their states, not the Fed govt.

perhaps instead of cowering under a blanket labeled "health care," democrats should respond and advance on the issues that move people. this, of course, would require a foundation of conviction and principle, which may be asking too much of the party's leadership and strategists.

Donald Trump was overwhelmed with emotion as he looked into the middle distance and pondered the mystery of whether the Widow Kirk is a B cup or a C cup as her firm breasts pressed against his rotting flesh.

“She’s hot, but not Ivanka hot,” he thought as he wondered what she looked like at 14.

As a friend recently put it: the venn diagram of people who assured us the gun violence was worth it because we need the guns to protect ourselves against a tyrannical federal government and the people cheering on Trump as he deploys the military to take over American cities is a circle
Q: Would you welcome federal resources going into a part of South Carolina with a high crime rate?

Nancy Mace: I hear that DC is safer than it's ever been…I look forward to watching the videos of soldiers entering Chicago

Any political leader who needs poll tested consultant advice on what to say about looming military occupation of American cities is in the wrong business and unworthy of their job.
The contrast between JB Pritzker’s remarks on Monday and congressional Democrats’ consultant-crafted evasion is immense but hopefully instructive. With a particular focus on his concluding paragraphs. www.offmessage.net/p/jb-pritzke...

I am begging my fellow Dems to emerge from the reflexive “it’s a trap” position on these issues and realize that some things are very simple: the public doesn’t like the federal government turning the military against its own citizens. The public doesn’t like the armed occupation of a city.Period.
Striking: New Quinnipiac poll finds 56% of voters nationally oppose Trump's sending of National Guard into DC. Only 41% support it.

Independents oppose it by 61-34.

Trump's overall approval on crime is cratering at 42-54.

That sound you hear is a lot of dimwitted pundit narratives imploding.

"These are all the makings of a powerful opposition politics and Democrats must not run away from it."

Here's a challenge: Find any Democratic leader in Washington running toward the fire with anything remotely close to the urgency of the crisis.

Business as usual by Democrats today - right now - is unacceptable. Their 'colleagues across the aisle' are not colleagues, they're co-conspirators aiding, abetting & cheering an anti-American rogue criminal Executive. Dems cannot allow business as usual in Congress. No comity. Disrupt everything.
it will take years to undo the damage from this lawless, criminal conduct. business as usual once Democrats reclaim executive power will unacceptable. no turning the page without repairing the damage
Extraordinary new detail about the FBI purge.
*Senior officials were asked to fire lower level officials tagged by online right wingers as being anti-Trump.
*When they asked for a reason - required by law - they were not given any. They refused. Then they were fired.

This is NOT NORMAL. @democrats.senate.gov must begin NOT NORMAL civil disobedience in the Senate. No more UCs allowed. Require mandatory quorums at all times. Raise a ruckus. Make a spectacle. No normal business as usual in the Senate until this stuff stops.
This is getting very bad:

*FBI raids top Trump critic's home
*Trump loyalist gins up "mortgage fraud" pretexts for DOJ probes of Schiff, Letitia James, Lisa Cook
*Bannon says ICE will monitor 2026 voting
*DHS memo vows LA operations "for years to come"

Thus far little is known about Friday’s law enforcement action against a top Trump critic. But we’re seeing an escalation of authoritarian power on many fronts that has grown unmistakable.

There's a word for state ownership of busnesses that produce goods and services. It's right there on the tip of my tongue. *thinking* It's one of those words that triggers right-wingers too.
"The United States paid nothing for these Shares" is an interesting way of describing "the U.S. released $8.9B in CHIPS funding intended for Intel in exchange for $8.9B in stock."

Perhaps Congress could've demanded shares for CHIPS money, but POTUS adding this ad hoc is simply unconstitutional.

"Leaders should be zeroing in on this question and this mantra: No troops in our cities, no troops in our homes."

Precisely. Who & where are these leaders? The Sens from sovereign CA, harassed by DHS & DOJ, see ICE wilding in LA, yet say little & do nothing but allow Fed & Senate business as usual.

Imagine a world where the state representatives in the constitutional body created to protect the interests of the sovereign states used the filibuster rules to stop funding the extorting Federal govt. If Dems can't win a shutdown fight over the war on cancer etc they should just pack up & go home.
It's another good reminder of the profound state of corruption of the current federal judiciary that these kinds of openly/criminal actions can take place and citizens have no recourse to the courts. www.nytimes.com/2025/08/08/u...
