My mom still gives me shit for mispronouncing formaldehyde once 25 years ago.
Fifteen years ago I felt pretty embarrassed pronouncing a word wrong, but now I’m just boasting like “oh yeah I guess I only know that one from READING it in a BOOK”

It was reprehensible when people mocked condom usage at the height of the AIDS pandemic.

It is just as depraved to mock those wearing masks to reduce the spread of airborne viruses today.

Whenever someone takes any kind of step to protect public health, they should be applauded, not mocked.

Milk sandwiches are also popular in the south.
all local milk and bread has disappeared from store shelves in anticipation of the coming ice storm. i always thought it was a midwest thing, but it turns out that dipping sandwich bread into milk during a storm is a traditional meal in new england as well

We fight surveillance by protecting community first. We don’t get anywhere without that. Normalize wearing masks when you are able to wear one. It helps to protect everyone.

I have worn a mask since I was a child, as someone who grew up in Korea. Because, community. I continue to wear one for a multitude of reasons including viruses, germs, dust, UV rays, anonymity, to rest my face, and perhaps lastly, to slow down surveillance.

Speaking as a privacy and security anti-surveillance person. To only wear a mask to thwart surveillance of yourself (which is not guaranteed with just a mask btw), but not wear one to protect each other from viruses and germs, is ableist.

In 2026 let’s normalize masking for public health.

If we could admit that with healthcare being gutted, vaccine access restricted and previously eradicated diseases coming back… having an extra layer like a respirator makes good sense.

Let’s also normalize not mocking people who mask!

genAI is STOLEN WORK. Using genAI in *any* capacity is trafficking in stolen work, supporting the plunder. Period. These facts aren't even denied by the AI companies, they just find ways to make that plunder seem benevolent. Using their product enables that lie. Stop enabling the theft of our work.
"we only use AI for coming up with ideas" no you don't. you use AI to come up with the a bland version of other people's ideas. there is currently NOBODY more replaceable than you

As the year draws to a close
I asked the old punk
how she stands firm
in this moment when
it feels like everyone
(it really feels like everyone)
has given up,
and with a simple shrug
the old punk replied
that she has always known
she’s not like everyone.

If someone wishes you "happy holidays," it doesn't mean they hate Christmas. They're simply acknowledging that there are *many* sacred observances that take place this month, including the anniversary of Muntadhar al-Zaidi throwing a shoe at George W Bush on this date in 2008.

We are experiencing a more severe than usual flu season and COVID rates are starting to rise. If you want to reduce your chances of getting sick, one of the most effective things you can do is wear a high quality mask. 🤫

The start of Covid’s 7th year
is the perfect time to revisit
the pandemic hobbies
you have abandoned:
you can get back to baking
and puzzles,
you can get back to reading
and calling your friends;
and you can even get back
into doing what you can
to protect other people.

And if you want

against the “something”
that’s going around:
wear a mask.

Spotify is garbage on every count: Its treatment of artists, its ICE advertising, the CEO's investment in military AI, its leading role in the commodification and AI slopification of music, its terrible audio quality—you name it.

So I quit, and put together a complete guide to getting off Spotify:

I have been informed
that today
is a day for giving
and in that spirit
if you would like
to do something
to show you give a damn:
you can wear a mask,
and if you
really do give a damn
you can keep wearing it
even on the days
that are not
specifically for giving.

Remember: Almost all of us are the descendants of immigrants who fled persecution, or were brought to America under duress, or sought better lives for themselves and their descendants.

Politicians who stoke fear and hatred over immigration want you to forget this.

Do not.
