As you may know, I have stopped using Twitter, and have decided to reproduce some of my more memorable threads here for posterity. Here’s one I hold wrote after a particularly engaging swordfighting lesson.

Buckle up, swordfighting fans, because I *have* studied my Agrippa!

Okay, as promised, here are my 25 boardgames that would make good presents for historians or the historically-inclined.
- I've played them and enjoyed them
- They have to have a historical theme or be related to the practice of history
- They were within the first 25 I thought of...

I grow frustrated with local news-- by focusing so much on stories of violence, they inadvertently promote the idea that the world is more violent than it is (leading voters to candidates who promise security at all costs).

But holding up a mic to a cow is incredible

Today is #RLSDay which marks the birthday of the Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson who would have been 175 today.
It's also a good day to remember that it is NOT actually his birthday because in 1891 he gave it away to a young girl because she didn't like her birthday. 🧵

I’ve only been in aviation for three years. I have much, MUCH to learn about aircraft maintenance. But I can attest that in most cases, a 737 does need some sort of engine if you want it to go up in the air. It’s true of most aircraft, but ESPECIALLY the 737.
The WSJ on how unbelievably stupid Noem and Lewandowski are.

I don’t care that I’m late to this; it’s to good to pass up.

Escapist gym log: my son spotted me on bench for the first time this morning. The moment I realized he actually _can_ spot me* was a weird, proud moment.

* - I’m still way stronger than he is. If/when the little punk actually out-benches me, THAT’S gonna feel weird.

There’s a sort of Dunning-Kruger effect happening where people who read widely, consider various perspectives, and put in effort to understand views they disagree with worry that they don’t do that enough, while people who don’t do any of that accuse others of being in a bubble and call it a day.

Dear @realgdt.bsky.social :
I’ve thought for ages that the human soul is just a product of our big ol’ H. sapien brains, evolving to bond cultures with stories so we’re more likely to survive. Cynical, sure. But you make me wonder if I’ve got it wrong. Or entirely right. Damn you. I love you.

I have been traveling and today I present to you...the thing I saw in the Frankfurt airport.

Is it efficient? Undeniably. Does it probably work better than the normal way? Oh certainly. Produce less of a mess? Probably?

But the existence of Condiment Udders gives me a deep, aghast disquiet.
