modesty laws prevented showing even one lousy frame of John Waters' PINK FLAMINGOS (1972) in the trailer, so the only footage in it is of people reacting to a screening they just came out of. every single type of extant queer person is contained in the specific sequences I have selected here

wealthy business owners and investors saw what happened during covid when people had enough extra money and flexibility to assert their power or quit their shitty jobs. sever the tie between insurance and employment and that only compounds.
Millions of Americans remain at jobs they hate for one reason: the health insurance they receive. That’s absurd.

Universal health care will give Americans the freedom to choose the work they want without worrying about health care coverage.

Another reason for Medicare for All.

a realization you have pretty quickly as a trans person is that nobody likes being in the bathroom and that everyone is trying their hardest not to notice the other people in there

I feel this. It's no coincidence that gardening was something I enjoyed this year. Fewer devices, less tracking, more care. Paper books, friends IRL, walking, tea, perfume, cinema, gigs...
Just be mindful that the attention economy is *not*your friend and not everything is accomplished by shopping.
Buttons are back. Knobs are back. Dumb devices are back. Own-it-forever software is back. Print is back. Personal websites and chronological feeds are back. Touching grass is back. People keep saying 2015, but it’s not far enough. The entire 2010s were a mistake. We must retvrn to… 2009.
Amazingly, reaction times using screens while driving are worse than being drunk or high—no wonder 90 percent of drivers hate using touchscreens in cars. Finally the auto industry is coming to its senses.

Lately I’ve been thinking that I might as well live if it’s not going to traumatize my enemies. And realistically staying alive is much more annoying to everyone who hates me, so at least there’s that.

I fucking did it. Well, me and Glenn. I made a thing real in the world when no asshole publisher would help, and made easily ten times what they would have paid me anyway. Victory dance!
extremely proud of this. I overcame my own inertia, publishing industry disinterest, and an alarming political climate and made this thing real. If I wait three years to do it again, the next book will be released into a very different world. Hopefully better!

The presidency once served as a reminder of our common humanity. Ronald Reagan described its purpose as building "a nation composed of good and decent people."

I know many things are awful but here is one genuinely useful and helpful thing you can do. No matter their party, your representative needs to hear that trans people and our families are not alone and this bill is an unjustifiable and extreme threat to criminalize the health care we need to live.
Tomorrow, the House of Representatives will vote on a bill that bans gender-affirming medical care for any transgender person under 18, and threatens any medical professional providing this care to youth with 10 years in prison.

Tell Congress to protect trans youth and vote NO.
Protect Trans Care Now
As wave after wave of extreme measures to criminalize and strip trans people of rights and safety continue, tell Congress to act.

As more and more creators are expected to be on camera to promote their comics, can we talk for a second about how this opens up female creators to intense harassment about their looks?

Not to mention a lot of "You only have a career in comics because you're good looking" comments?

"Young people in the US are not stupid or gullible. They simply reject genocide – something the Secretary might consider doing as well."

It’s very funny to me that countries are trying to pass laws banning teens from social media until they’re older and can “handle it” as if the last decade hasn’t been about watching rich middle aged men nuke their brains on Twitter and then run the USA via shitpost.
Dude. Yes. Alito and Thomas are of course the standout examples, but all of the Republican justices have tells in their writing and their questioning indicating that they are, to varying degrees, marinating their brains in dumb bitch juice
My theory, fwiw, is that Supreme Court Justices are not immune to Twitter brain poisoning. I suspect all six have horrific information environments and have therefore lost the ability to understand the people who don't agree with them.
