This is just objectively the exact opposite of the truth. Every serious effort to actually quantify the ideological valence of political violence has found the reverse of what Vance claims.
Vance: “People on the left are much likelier to defend and celebrate political violence. This is not a both sides problem. If both sides have a problem, then one side has a much bigger and malignant problem and that is the truth.”

I don't really know how you don't look at the rise of illiberal reactionaries as *the* defining political trend of the Western World right now. People are reacting to the confusion and chaos of modernity by going into hysterics and trying to burn it down. So far, they're succeeding.
i understand why biden thought MAGA was a temporary fever that the GOP could get over but i genuinely think that hypothesis has been falsified and we are now stuck with a world where there's a bunch of people raised to support illiberal rightist forces

It's honestly incredible how polarized the knowledge environment is. If you approach things with the right mindset you, as a non-practitioner, non-student, auto-didact, can learn almost any topic extremely deeply. This coexists w/widespread acceptance of the most insane lies and delusions.
