It really is a central pillar of modern political xenophobia - a xenophobia that’s a major policy focus of the three top parties in British politics (I’m assuming reform now poll above the Lib Dems) - this complete lie that refugees specifically want to come to Britain above all European countries.

It has been wild to see what were always the two most paranoid pro-Second Amendment scenarios—the government snatching people away and sending occupying armies into communities—literally happen this year, to the delight of conservatives
There can’t be any gun restrictions because we have to protect against federal government tyranny, and if kids get shot we just have to live with it. Also the President can send troops to cities because the federal government can do whatever it wants. These two ideas are consistent and reasonable.
