This is an amazing story. Houston criminalized feeding the homeless, Food not Bombs continued to do so, the city has ticketed them dozens of times and occasionally arrested members but hasn’t been able to get a single conviction. www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston...
Food Not Bombs trial rescheduled after too many jurors objected to $500 fine for feeding homeless
Roughly 90 tickets have been issued since March to volunteers with the loosely organized Food Not Bombs, which serves meals to people in need.

This is a fifteen year old cartoon and obviously from a very different internet era, but I think still relevant to the current collapse of journalism.

I was supposed to give a TED talk in early 2017 but dropped out after they said I couldn’t mention Trump, who’d just taken office. I tried to explain how you can’t really talk about futurism without mentioning the world Trump is trying to build. They said they didn’t want TED to become “political.”
This year's TED conference speaker lineup includes Bill Ackerman, Bari Weiss and Andrew Yang, if you wanted an update on how gross that organization has become.

Take off the table the idea that this is an empirically sound and responsible argument (it's not). Instead, let's focus on where this way of talking about universities comes from and who it serves, based on recent historical precedent.

This this this this this. If I could disillusion abled people of one idea about disability, it's the idea that when you get sick, doctors will actually help you. This is almost always an abject lie, so much so that we all pass around the names of doctors who will like they're magic spells.
Part of why healthy people aren't afraid to get sick is- they think if they do develop long-term issues, they'll be able to go & get treated by doctors who will work day and night to fix them (as it was on House, M.D.) & don't realize there's a 99% chance they'll be told they just have anxiety

It’s not an exaggeration. If the allegations are true this will derail the Georgia case (practically if not legally), very substantially boost Trump, and undermine the credibility of other Trump cases by association. Disastrous.
It's important for ppl to realize that Fani Willis just handed Trump a huge political victory out of sheer power-mad selfishness.

If these allegations are true (and that seems quite likely given the evidence attached), then Willis is as twisted a person as any of Trump's most evil lawyers.
I think it’s a practical realization that (1) this means someone Republican will take over and reevaluate the case and (2) the case will be tainted in a way that will immediately cause things to start going badly.

Disney still trying to copyright strike Steamboat Willie was inevitable, given their bullying ways.

This kind of behavior will, hopefully, make it more difficult to Sonny Bono themselves another copyright extension but they’re going to fight like hell for 1937

Tesla has now tacitly admitted to fraud twice in the last 30 days, first with regard to its Autopilot safety claims (in the form of a recall) and now with regard to its inflated range claims.

Somehow there have been neither civil nor criminal penalties for either. Hope that changes!
