Useful tip to understanding certain things but like most Chinese and Koreans and Asians in general don’t think about Japanese atrocities that often if at all. Only time they do is mostly in response to the Japanese themselves being really really weird about it.

It’s bad, and justified American guilt over our inexcusable treatment of Japanese Americans should not cause us to ignore victims of Imperial Japan - 20 million or more dead and the most horrific atrocities, worse than the Nazis by far
People don't appreciate the fact that the crimes of the Japanese fascists are on par with those of the Nazis. I think people overlook this because of white supremacy, they don't see the lives of Asians as equal to those of Europeans.

Exactly right. People want to make this about language and forbidden words, but it's really about prosocial and antisocial behavior. To encourage the return of the R slur, as far too many on the left have embraced, is to promote antisocial behavior that makes society worse for everyone.
