I don't remember who initially proposed it (I don't think it was Sommers, I think it was long after the fact), but redoing all the Universal Monsters as horror-adjacent pulp adventures with Brendan Faser and Rachel Weisz, instead of doing mummy sequels and Van Helsing, would have been solid gold.
