Trump isn’t some aberration. He’s the conservative movement’s logical and inevitable—and intentional—endpoint.

The movement was always an AstroTurf propaganda effort by anti-democratic corporate interests and scions from wealthy families that preferred fascism to Roosevelt.

A good general rule, works very well in all matters
A lot of our political discourse would be easier if we didn't extend good faith to people who would never extend it back.

Don’t know how many more examples it’s going to take for people to realize that billionaires are an existential threat to democracy and its institutions.

I think it should probably be a bigger story that the president of the United States is a raving lunatic

You’ll never guess but the solution to people not having money is to give them money.
"By the end of the two-year period, 94% of participants reported they were housed."

A million pilot programs show the same thing: when people are given enough money to afford housing, homelessness ends.

Other supports matter, but housing comes first. Not policing. Not moralizing. Homes.

Two sides of the same coin - the inevitable result of concentrating power in an oligarch class and allowing them to be above the law. When control over institutions, public policy, health, education etc isn't about competence or expertise but who you know, everything collapses into grift and empire.

We start using people like this as an example of how extreme wealth destroys people’s brains. He was going to be a sick-o regardless, but the wealth gave him the means to be an absolute monster.

Look at Thiel chasing his anti-Christ windmills, all these people are certifiable. Take their money.

The Epstein emails should really end the debate over whether society should have billionaires. "Do you want there to be a class of people so powerful they can fuck your kids and no one will even try to do anything" seems like an easy sell if everyone in politics wasn't trying to get on their payroll

News media don't report the news, they make them. They decide what is a scandal and what isn't, what will be buried and covered up.

Most journalists want to do a good job, but they report to rich owners who use their ownership to their own benefit.

It's the institutions that are failing us.

The man who spent his entire adult life on campus of #Stanford until a year ago to a podcast booth in DC is talking about "elites breaking public trust"

Between David Brooks news and this I feel like I'm in the upside down, where the most pampered men on the planet are the downtrodden "common man"
Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, the director of N.I.H., was called a “fringe epidemiologist” during the Covid era. On this episode of “Interesting Times,” he tells Ross Douthat that the elites broke the public’s trust, and now it’s up to outsiders to restore it.

The regime-affiliated oligarchs who bought up Twitter, the Washington Post, CBS, and TikTok didn't do so to turn a profit.

They are taking control of the media to limit the public's ability to resist authoritarianism and oligarchy. If they run the outlets into the ground, that's fine.

Over the last 48 hours, the talking point on the right has solidified; the only reason that we are seeing violent clashes against ICE is because of sanctuary policies and failure to cooperate from city officials who are fanning the flames.

Take a look; it's wild how quickly they're all adopting it.

Actually, there should be consequences for being wrong. There has to be consequences for being this wrong.

It's literally the only mechanism for accountability in a society where the powerful and affluent act with impunity.

Just follow those who got it wrong all along and STFU.
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?
