History is full of soft coups and revolutions in which the tyrant's most seemingly ardent supporters, intentionally or otherwise, destabilize him by saying "the king is wonderful, but he is being betrayed by corrupt advisors!" It used to be the ONLY way to pressure or force out a king.

This is why I think the next Democratic president needs to use the EXACT tools that SCOTUS has handed Trump. Don't leave room for any distinctions.

Impound funds for deportation. Give ICE the USAID treatment. Refuse to collect government-backed debt. Purge MAGA loyalists from the executive branch.

When the Supreme Court struck down Biden's policies, it was tempting to think: "At least these limits on executive authority will bind Trump if he comes back into office." But no—the court's skepticism of executive power vanished on Jan. 20, 2025. This dynamic is obvious to anyone paying attention!

It is pretty galling that the Supreme Court spent four years telling Biden "you can't do that without Congress" then allowed Trump to seize a once-unthinkable amount of power from Congress within nine months and concentrate law-making authority almost entirely in the executive branch.

Could the Supreme Court still apply different rules to a Democratic president? Of course. You don't need to remind me of that. But a lightning-fast blitz that repurposes Trump's new powers for good stands the best chance of standing up in court. Democrats need to start thinking about this right now.

One thing that really pissed me off about the Sam Bankman Fried scandal is I had a twitter account back in the day and just bluntly pointed out how much he corrupted Washington.

speaking from firsthand experience, they’ll label 90 day supplies of birth control “abortion drugs” because 4 days’ dose can be used as plan b.

• make abortion a felony equivalent to
"the homicide of a person born alive"
• allow 30 years imprisonment for having or aiding an abortion
• prohibit transporting a minor out of state to obtain an abortion
• ultimately restrict all forms of contraception
• restrict IVF by defining a "human embryo" as a fertilized egg or zygote
• ban possessing any drug or substance that can be used for abortion
• criminalize information about abortion, including via a website or phone call
• force public school students to watch an anti-abortion propaganda video called "Meet Baby Olivia," produced by the anti-abortion group Live Action

A striking thing about articles I’ve read claiming to “study the effects” of generative AI on student writing skills and consumption of information is that (1) they nearly always find the effects are negative and (2) most “conclusions” are still written assuming that we must use AI, for some reason.
