As usual, AOC is right. As usual, Dem leaders are curled up in a ball under their desks. There was a chance to gain leverage here and, more importantly, actually help protect Americans who the CR will hurt gravely. But no. Kittens need naptime.
AOC: It is almost unthinkable why Senate Democrats would vote to to hand the few pieces of leverage that we have away for free when we've been sent here to protect social security, protect medicaid, and protect medicare.

PRAMS is the source of data for basically every effort to limit infant mortality and all the health dangers mothers face before and after birth. So a pretty big deal the Elon and Co decided to cancel the program.

Holy shit! You’ve got to see this town hall. Republicans are starting to get torn apart by their own constituents.

Rep. Rich McCormick: “You don’t think I’m going to stand up for you?”

Woman in the crowd: “You need to stand up.”

Another woman: “Don’t bend over.” 🔥

Tonight, Senate Republicans are charging ahead with their budget proposal.

They’re making clear who matters to them: billionaires and giant corporations.

And who does not: working families.

D.C. Democrats keep talking themselves into the idea that they're powerless. That any pushback is futile. It's a total misreading of the landscape, and misunderstanding of the game that's being played.
The Polish foreign minister understands Trump better than 90% of D.C. Democrats.

Unreal. DOGE posted National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) headcounts.

NRO budgets and headcounts are classified to prevent adversaries from using them to extrapolate our intelligence priorities.

They left the dog. This civil servant, who deployed with wife & 3 kids to frigging KINSHASA (to support development of Congolese capacity to sell cobalt to not-China, which is a policy goal that sells itself) was told by US Marines to load into a raft with 1 backpack per person. They left their dog.

The ‘American First’ crowd is awfully quiet about Trump’s pledge to build free housing for 2 million Palestinians in some random country they don’t want to go to that also doesn’t want them. I’m sure this will all work out fine and that’s what people thought they were voting for.

This is the most sober and hopeful analysis I've read all week, highly recommended.
For instance, she points out that it's not really a coup, it's just a crime spree. And the tools and institutions to stop it are already in action.
TL;DR: don't believe the hype
Mump are trying to gaslight us into believing they have unlimited power. They do not. Fascism succeeds by making it hard for people to envision the alternative. Our job is to help people see the real reality: that Trump and Musk can, and already are, being stopped.

The federal government *regularly* spends money to encourage behavior it couldn’t compel directly. Like paying states to build roads or fund healthcare for those who can’t afford it.

It’s called the Spending Clause—and it’s the very first enumerated power that the Constitution gives to Congress.
