Ice doesn't stop melting when you stop raising the thermostat.

Decent people don't use substack

REMINDER:

1. If you're on Substack, get off of Substack.

2. If you want to start a Substack, DON'T.
A thread for getting off Substack 🧵:

1. First, migrate your archive and subscriber list to the new platform. I went to buttondown, which was the most affordable for me as a small letter, not a lot of paid subscribers. It's not as slick of an interface, but it does everything I need.

Hi! Waves 👋. Over the past year, I have come to terms with ADHD diagnosis, started treatment, and tried to organise my life better. I have learned a lot. This document summarises 99% of it - I wish I had had this ages ago.

Our media's reporting of trans issues is poisonous, unhinged, a betrayal by those who pretend to report impartially, and shamefully reminiscent of other hate propagandising throughout the last century. I'm surprised to see it in the UK but I need to learn that it is, since Brexit, just who we are.

And that's just for starters.

Labour are liars. They can't be progressive as they can't be trusted on what they promise, and they rarely ever deliver what they claim. All the scrutiny should be on Labour, who have betrayed a country crying out for something better.

Whereas Labour:

- Participated in genocide
- Are trying to remove protection from torture
- Are trying to lock up 2000 people protesting against genocide
- Cut off healthcare for trans children
- Have broken human rights law for disabled people
- Keep trying to remove support for disabled people

So many bad-faith attacks on Zack Polanski.

His own partner works in palliative care!

About a third of carers are migrants.

Among other things, Labour has banned them from bringing their partners and kids here.

Labour pretending to care about them is nauseating.

Warning from German scientists that current observations of emissions and ocean temperatures make 3C of #globalheating by mid-century plausible.

3C of heating makes our current global society unlivable, by the way. Parts of Spain become the Sahara, eg.

The truth is that we are shocked by the ferocity of the extreme weather events in 2023.

We are afraid of the uncharted territory that we have now entered.'

The NHS is under pressure to adopt Palantir software. Its founder openly despises the NHS.

You can push back: use our tool to see if your local trust is using the software, then send an email to say no to Palantir

This is the 'hero' Gender Critical campaigners have chosen.

I live in a tri and sometimes quadri-lingual context, so I use tools like deepl and google translate quite often. Please beware, deepl has a new AI translater that just makes up crap, in my case a petition with a link that goes to a fishing website. Avoid at all costs.

Our local tram line is shut down for a month and the replacement buses are a total nightmare. A good reminder that trams are simply the best mode of transport on the planet

(I think this debacle was caused by impatient drivers trying to overtake though)

It's worse than this.
#AMOC keeps weakening even after greenhouse gases start to fall
- widening energy imbalance indicates more heating at GHG stasis
- Melting doesn't stop when you stop increasing the temperature (and it was melting at +1.0C)

We don't know where the threshold is for AMOC stopping

Covid fraud under the Tories cost the UK taxpayer £10.9bn.

VIP lanes and crony contracts.

Lack of anti-fraud controls in Covid scheme.
Money handed out for non-existent employees
Newly formed companies got public money
No competitive tenders
Poor checks on quality.

How much would be recovered?

When Sstarmer / Reeves enthuse about inward investment, they're promoting more of the same - private ownership of key services, investment gradually swapped out for loans, shareholder payouts, but a shady, 2nd-rate outcome for the public.

Don't forget that Labour is still absolutely committed to privatisation (especially the NHS)
UK public has paid £200bn to shareholders of key industries since privatisation.

In public ownership that would have gone into infrastructure, lower bills.

Privatisation delivered low investment, high bills, no tax on dividends to foreign investors.

No end to nightmare without public ownership.

Analysis reveals ‘privatisation premium’ of £250 per household per year paid to owners of water, rail, bus, energy and mail services since 2010

insane local news just dropped. i've lived in a part of KC for ~decade and it's been an inside joke with friends and service workers that the local biz/party district is ran by a cartel of biz owners who bully out new ventures and replace them with generic dive bars for white suburbanites.

Well UH
