I keep seeing these headlines. $220 million for 3000 jobs? And then they cut and run? Getting pretty tired of this corporate welfare with minimal benefits. Even if they honour the original deal your tax dollars prop up corporate profits & a handful of jobs. #cdnpoli

This is a big part of it, for me. Instead of glancing at the image and continuing to listen to the talk, I’m noticing that the table leg is connected to the chair, that the shirt buttons sideways, that the window bleeds weirdly into the wall. And wondering why the presenter didn’t notice or care.
It's also just distracting because usually the image has some weirdness to it, and it doesn't tend to add explanatory value. So if you're just adding them for ambience or to represent a generic concept, just use a regular picture.
I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

Privatization is HARMFUL and results in more deaths.

The more each relies on FOR-PROFIT COMPANIES to deliver healthcare

She’s saying that, understandably, the students are doing super poorly!

I've asked Canada Revenue Agency about this issue before, they won't comment on the activities of individual charities due to the "confidentiality provisions of the Income Tax Act"

They note the public can report charities suspected of non-compliant activities here:

We’ve had a number of promising meetings with supportive officials, but we’re still navigating old support programs while pressing on with our own limited funds (with help from friends and family).

As Canadians, we should care about this because being empathetic keeps you human. But we should also care about this because of the impact it'll have on Snowbirds; both them straight up getting sick or dying from exposure, but also them bringing all those illnesses back to Canada in the spring.

Still remember one study where they had "AI" look at photos to diagnose cancer and it had like a 98% or 99% accuracy...

...except all the photos of actual tumors had a ruler next to them for scale. And the algorithm just got really good at spotting rulers in a photograph.
Stop offloading cognitive tasks to "generative AI." Stop using systems w/ "AI" features either inextricably woven through them or prominently displayed at the top to nudge you into their use. Stop *Designing* "AI" tools & integrations that way. Stop building or using "AI" like this. Fucking Stop it.

Artificial intelligence, touted for its potential to transform medicine, led to some doctors losing skills after just a few months in a new study.

there's an episode of The Simpsons where Marge tries to get a violent cartoon pulled from the airwaves, only to discover that the people backing her aren't going to stop at just the art that *she* doesn't like, and that supporting artistic freedom means accepting discomfort.

It aired in 1990.
