When I worked in accessible transit this was 100% the most common hurdle when we’d deal with consultants. They simply could not grasp that a large portion of disabled transit riders, many of whom are low-income, do not have regular access to the internet, let alone a smartphone

"everybody has a smartphone these days lol" false. that's something you made up. only 91% of Americans have smartphones. those last 9% are still people who deserve services (and probably need them more than anybody else). that's still like 30.6 million people

so much of this! and how it's creeping in everywhere. the places that don't have menus and make you scan a QR which already tacks on additional assumptions and that's on top of the fact that a lot of these apps and websites aren't well designed either!

so many people in the US are weirdly adamant about it. like the amount of people I've met who get angry we have bus announcements and street signs in Spanish in fucking Miami is too high. and it's common to have announcements in two or even three languages in the rest of the world

ah, okay. I wasn't sure how far they had gotten. I follow devs who had gotten pretty far with self-hosting appviews but that's also a different ballgame. I haven't checked back in on where things have progressed yet, but this is encouraging me to do so
