That -11% YoY traffic reduction is actually a bit more impressive than it seems bc traffic was actually getting 3-5% *worse* each year prior.

The true reduction is closer to 14%-16% compared to where we would be without the tolls today.

Andrea Pitzer, who wrote a global history of concentration camps, on why we must call a concentration camp "a concentration camp."

One of the most important things I've ever worked on.

Concentration camps in the U.S.A. - not fiction but a horrid reality that all Americans need to come to terms with.

I highly recommend Andrea Pitzer's #OneLongNight to better understand the history of the concentration camp. We can move past this barbarism.
🧊 WAREHOUSING HUMANS 😲

we, in the United States, through Trump’s mass deportation scheme, have engaged in abductions and torture for the past year, none of it in secret, much of it attested to in legal documents. there is nothing to expose, only to face.

I used to have a grey market Canadian satellite dish up on my roof so I could watch Hockey Night in Canada and live coverage of the Olympics.

I guess I need to do that again, but for the news.

Not sure how to interpret this, but I'll reach for the sky!

Also, I'll try to phone home and say hi to mom more often.

It's been a dark, dark time in the news for quite some time now. While there are, and will continue to be, bright spots, we must use these times as a learning opportunity.

If there is one (and there are many!) thing I've learned from reading Andrea Pitzer's #OneLongNight, it is perseverance.

Remember the old saw...much easier to destroy than it is to grow.

This will haunt Finland, perhaps rightly, for quite some time.
December 18, 2025 at 12:11 PM
A reckoning is going to come to Finland, and Finns had better be prepared for it.

The current racism crisis brings it all together for those who wish to see the truth of the matter. What is being enjoyed by the right today (tax cuts and bigotry) is destroying the Finland of tomorrow.
(The root causes of Finland's economic woes are 1. very rapidly aging demographic with 1a. low immigration, which increases healthcare and 1b. pension expenditures, which counts almost completely as public expenditure in Finland; and 2. lack of economic growth, largely due to 2a. low investment.)

But it did happen! This like this have happened and with milquetoast responses like this, they will continue to happen.

This needs to be condemned completely and resoundingly so. Using clear language that this is racist behavior and will not be tolerated in the governing coalition.

Blatant Islamophobia from a sitting U.S. Senator. Disgusting. He should be censured and expelled.
This is from a Republican senator. He doesn't attack extremists or terrorists, nope, he attacks 1.7 billion people.

Meanwhile, he still supports Trump and makes excuses for the Jan 6 violent insurrection.

Hateful, hypocritical, and stupid.

A reminder that the camp that starts the narrative in #onelongnight is still there. Concentration camps continue to plague this world, and we must learn to understand their existence, and how to root them out when our governments attempt to bring them to use.
Good morning from Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, where three military judges are taking the bench in the course of this week in the 9/11 and USS Cole bombing cases. The two 9/11 case judges are new and subject to questioning to probe for ethical conflicts at their first military commission appearances.
