thing about graphical realism is that a lot of the games that cynically chase after it don't care enough about the visual language of film they are trying to copy to make the realism actually interesting let alone work in games. something as basic as colour palette and scene framing is a good one

I replayed Metroid 2 for the first time since childhood this year, and fell so deeply in love with its design. It is so different to the rest of the series in its progression structure and toolset, so much so that it actually reminds me most of all of Shadow of the Colossus. (1/7)

i think one of the best "oh the current writers GET these characters" moments is in murder of sonic the hedgehog where when they find out sonic's been tranq'd shadow is the one who immediately starts getting him elevated with water and such. guy who knows how to deal with somebody passing out
