Saw an ancient woodland up for sale with someone saying it should be bought and restored. Somebody else was offering to pay for it.

Three years in and the restoration is coming along nicely, with an army of local regular volunteers all also mostly found through social media. 🫡

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

The opposite of FMS is “Email the transport portfolio holder in your local authority” (and CC your councillors)! 🖐🏼
When I cycled past the flower lane, there were 3 cyclists, and a cargo bike very smoothly turning in both directions from and onto Howard street new layout
works! Is there a platform that is the opposite of "fix my street" ??
One where we can send appreciation for what does work!!

Celebrate your wins! Here’s “Flower Lane”, a popular bit of permeability in OX4. The photo is 2024, showing how unfriendly the approach is for anyone using it. 1/

Excited that the Oxford Congestion Charge means that the 3/3A will now run to the station!! Amongst a whole host of other bus improvements.
oxfordclarion.bsky.social
Oxford Bus Co has announced more frequent bus services from November to coincide with the congestion charge coming into effect. The improvements mean Blackbird Leys and Cowley will have services to the city centre every 10 minutes, while Iffley Road gets a new night bus.

Amazing what you can do when you show some bottle and introduce a tough policy which reaps a dividend later (rather than folding under the slightest pressure, like Oxford East's MP)

Park & Ride bus journeys will be free when Oxford’s congestion charge comes into effect on 29 October. Holders of P&R parking tickets will be entitled to catch any Stagecoach or Oxford Bus Co service from the sites, not just the P&R-branded ones. news.oxfordshire.gov.uk/free-park-an...

No indication yet from major media that the FBI has any interest whatsoever in investigating this apparent attempted assassination of a well-known judge openly targeted on social media by the far-right activist—Harmeet Dhillon—currently calling herself Assistant Attorney General of the United States
Beachfront home of South Carolina judge, ex-senator burned to ground, injuring 3
Ex-senator Arnold Goodstein, along with two additional people, were rescued by several neighbors and paramedics from a marshy, remote area behind the home after jumping from the fist floor.

Delighted to be back on BBC Politics South this morning talking Digital ID, Green Party Conference, and pharmacies.

Just watched it with the kids: the “which animal is your party” was definitely their favourite feature.

I preordered mine a while back on Bookshop.org! Cars cost an average of $12,000 a year to operate and I want a better life for us all than being dependent on a car for daily transportation!

When it comes to better leadership for better city-building, here’s a simple piece of advice that sounds obvious, but still needs to be said as often as possible.

Make the good things that you say you want easy, and the bad things that you say you don’t want hard, instead of the other way around.

Question:

If a POTUS was actually a Russian asset with the specific intent of destroying the military power, market strength, social unity, economic hegemony & global influence of the United States from within,

what would that person do DIFFERENTLY than what that asshole is doing right now?

Warren: "Knock 15 million people off their coverage, drive up the cost for everyone else, close rural hospitals -- that's the Republican plan, because you know what the real heart of it was? They gave away a trillion dollars to the billionaires. That was the part that matters to them."

I often think about how so many cities are absolutely AGONIZING over the idea of turning a single street, or even a block, into a people-place and pedestrian stroll, while thriving communities like Gràcia in Barcelona are filled with so many streets & squares with no cars, or at most “tamed” cars.”

Finally, the bit about balancing bikes and cars which the right preaches must be thrown out the window! Our transportation system has been imbalanced in favour of cars for decades, so achieving real transportation balance will inevitably mean taking space away from cars & giving it to people! (5/5)

Unlike Farage, we're proud of Britain.

Britain has problems that need fixing, but we must never forget our strengths, our people and our values.

They are what make this country special.🇬🇧

I may have found my defining quote.

Pair this with my pinned post and you will see what I mean!
From a poster called “just shower thoughts“ reading: when people talk about traveling to the past, they worry about radically, changing the present by doing something small, barely anyone in the present to really thinks that they can radically change the future by doing something small.

People act like getting kids places without a car is Herculean. I biked three (one not mine) to the Kingfield Farmers Market, 95% on bikeways. No car seats, no stress, just laughs. The challenge isn’t moving kids, it’s redesigning cities to work for people instead of cars. #StreetsForPeople
View from the front of a cargo bike riding on a new two-way protected bikeway. Ahead, three children, all wearing helmets, ride bikes — one in a yellow sweatshirt, one in black, and one in a patterned dress. A pedestrian walks on the sidewalk to the left. Apartment buildings line one side of the street, and parked cars line the other. Trees and bright morning sunlight frame the neighborhood scene.
