After COVID I noticed my students didn't even know how to write a thesis statement or use citations. So I redesigned my course to make these formative projects, unlike some of my colleagues who felt they were too precious to do this and it still makes me mad.
I am super duper tired of professors dumping on students and writing endless think pieces about how we are doomed, and "kids these days can't even read" etc. Like please shut all the fucking way up.

Let's not pretend these halls are hallowed meritocracies that are only now being "degraded".

Every time we’re concerned with some new disturbing development, we’re told it’s unlikely. And then it happens. And then it’s the next thing that’s unlikely.
I urge everyone who is understandably disturbed by the petition news to consider how very unlikely it is for the Court to even take this up, much less reverse Obergefell. Unlike abortion, marriage opponents don’t have the same social movement that anti-abortion forces did, which was core to the GOP.
Obergefell v. Hodges made me believe in the whole "arc of history bends towards justice." In the 90s, I didn't think gay marriage would be legalized in my lifetime because homophobia was so deeply ingrained. We would have never gotten here without the decision and now it may be overturned.

The Minnesota shooter apparently used data broker websites to find the home addresses of the people he shot and murdered.

Congress has had years to do something about data brokers and they've sided with the tech lobby over and over again.

Their inaction is deadly.

Andry José Hernández Romero, I remember you, even if I do not know how to articulate my horror, rage, & sorrow at your treatment by my government.

No one has heard from you in 43 days.

As vigil, I’m posting a photo of you every day until you are returned from El Salvador.

Hot take: the best journalists are, in a way, activists.

If your journalism isn't guided by a desire to make the world kinder and fairer through access to factual information, you're simply a stenographer for the status quo.
I’m totally fine with being called a radical rogue professor. lol

But on a serious note, yes “activist” has been used to delegitimize people who are focused on equity, care and questioning systems.

I’ve dealt with the activist vs. journalist label my entire career.

It’s a control tactic.

As someone who was raised Roman Catholic I really hate how much joy this gives me.
Imagine basing so much of your public identity on your adult conversion to Catholicism, only to be publicly dismissed by the actual Catholic hierarchy.

You sound lonely and so you will die lonely. May the groundskeeper forget your grave.

Hundreds of international students have just received an email telling them their visas have been revoked.

The ‘justification’ is campus activism or social media posts.
