I was a reporter and editor back when newspapers were popular and meaningful. I've been in 50 states and nine provinces. I was a boy reporter in Georgia who covered Jimmy Carter when he ran for governor in 1966. I met him again in Canada many years later.

Republicans have made it clear they no longer support democracy over their party, even trying to defend their position with semantics: ("We're a republic.")

it's time for journos to start asking Johnson meta questions

"Speaker, on 5 occasions last week you said 'I haven't seen it' when asked about news events w/big implications for public policy. Do you ever read the news, and do you agree it's problematic for the Speaker to be so woefully uninformed?"

Imagine future generations of school kids memorizing a Trump speech as if it were the Gettysburg Address. Or listening to recordings of him as people still do with FDR's fireside chats.

I just saw a comment that said "I don't support what happened to Charlie, but Charlie supported what happened to Charlie."

THAT ... that's what I've been trying to put into words.

We have a bit of a natural experiment here. Compare the tone, quantity and duration of Charlie Kirk coverage with that of the two Dem lawmakers gunned down in their homes in Minnesota 6 months ago. May be revealing.

Not once in the entire history of the United States has the 2nd Amendment been used to successfully resist actual tyranny, but it is used day in and day out to successfully murder children just trying to go to school.

This is step one in how we lose free and fair elections. It’s not that Trump will “cancel” the midterms.

It’s just everyone has to vote in person, and urban downtowns will be filled with ICE checkpoints and intimidating National Guard troops to “double check” that only citizens vote.
This is gibberish

Democrats should fully embrace a big tent party, one that has a place for Cooper AND Mamdani. Democrats need both vs. corrupt oligarchy, No one expects a Mamdani to run in NC or Cooper in NYC so why attack a candidate who is suited to his jurisdiction?

There are no red states, no blue states, only purple, from Idaho fuchsia to Vermont violet. And in every state there are children, non-citizens, and prisoners who can't vote. In every state where one candidate won, a bunch of people voted for the other candidate. And so forth.

The conservative movement has turned against reality on every scientific issue of our time, from gun violence to climate change to epidemiology.

If campuses are ideologically homogenous, it's not because academia has ostracized conservatives. It's because conservatives have ostracized academia.
