I see there’s a post about microplastics going around with a photo of drinking straws, so here is my semi-regular reminder that the 3 biggest sources of microplastics are tires (45%), synthetic clothing particles (35%) and paint (~10%).
Lay article attached:
One of the biggest microplastic pollution sources isn’t straws or grocery bags – it’s your tires
Every few years, the tires on your car wear thin and need to be replaced. But where does that lost tire material go? The answer, unfortunately, is often waterways, where the tiny microplastic particle...

This purported "suicide" video of Jeffrey Epstein in his prison cell is in the latest batch of Epstein files. But it's a fake 3D render posted to YouTube in 2020.

It's in the files because a Florida conspiracy theorist sent an email to federal investigators in March 2021 asking if it was real.

bari weiss saw this and decided that she had to hide it from the american public
Guards began beating him. Beat him until he bled. Knocked his face into the wall, broke all his teeth. No access to outdoors, no contact with relatives.

Now describing US knowledge of CECOT's torture practices, followed by footage of Trump praising those practices.

an interesting thing here is that while white men are not being systematically discriminated against, they are constantly *told* they're being discriminated against, which yeah probably still drives them to the hard right

all based on lies, but when has the right wing cared about *that*?

Article 22 is a jewelry company that repurposes Vietnam War shrapnel and battlefield debris. A portion of their profits goes to the Mine Advisory Group, which works to remove landmines still left in Laos (they've removed more than 300k mines!). I like the company's "Shard" necklace collection.

A storm of police lies and a targeted retaliatory prosecution that could have wrecked this person's life.

A Portland jury acquitted Indigenous community member Tracy Molina, also known as Cozca, of every charge submitted to them after a two-day trial centered on washable chalk messages written on a police precinct window, and police testimony riddled with lies the jury ultimately rejected.

A story I found about Haiti:

In 1999, a group of Haitians were tired of political disorder and dreamed of a better life in the United States. So they built a small, 23-foot boat by hand using pine trees, scrap wood, and used nails. They called the boat "Believe in God."

In the 1980s and 90s, Satan and his followers were accused of brainwashing children, sacrificing babies, and infiltrating North American society on a massive scale — yet these thousands of alleged Satanists were nowhere to be found. Adding to this, the idea that concept art is some sort of tedium you can cut corners on is genuinely insulting. Concept art is the bedrock to a setting's entire visual identity, and cutting corners on it is akin to shooting yourself in the foot to win a race.
"It's just concept art, who cares if they use genAI and not actual artists?"

Look at this concept art for C-3P0 by Ralph McQuarrie.

It's the very thing that inspired Anthony Daniels to go for the role of Threepio and perform him as such.

It is the first heartbeat of the art that now exists.
