These might be passive aggressive gifts but both The Incandescent by Emily Tesh and Inventing the Renaissance by Ada Palmer are great for people who are NOT huffing the fumes of Harry Potter or "this is what they took from you" memes. (And people who are don't deserve them but hey, authors need $$$)

I do not want to "nano banana" my goddam photos, phone. But your branding was clearly done by people who don't like you, and I'm mean enough to feel smug about that.

(I'm actually never going to buy a Pixel again because of this and other attempts to coerce adoption of AI functions, though).

Boomer parents texting me so I can explain buttered Jorts to them.

This involved telling them what jorts are, introducing them to Reddit, and a soupçon of union discourse. I'm a little fearful of the results.

Occasionally Zoë interrupts me at my desk until I follow her to a rug, whereupon she sits and demands I pull the rug around the apartment. She'll bring a toy or attack the fringe during the ride.

Lately she's realized she can get back on if she steps off. So the rides don't need to end.

I feel like I've made a mistake being online this week. Maybe this lifetime. My refusal to take time and touch grass has led to me reading too many Epstein emails and now I can't decide whether I should puke or punch a brick wall.

FINE, fiiiiine, I did it. I'm making a newsletter so people can keep up on shop updates. I generally only do a shop drop once a season at most so this combined with my aversion to emails makes it so I physically cannot spam your inbox.

We took on a powerful incumbent who was expected to coast to reelection.

We faced more corporate PAC money than has ever been spent attacking a candidate in a Seattle election.

We built a people-powered movement rooted in hope for our city’s future.

And we won.

This is YOUR city!

My god this is for real one of the most incredible speeches I’ve ever seen by an elected US politician: ‘And if there is any way to terrify a despot, it is to dismantle the very conditions that allowed him to accumulate power. This not only how we stop Trump, it’s how we stop the next one.’
Mamdani: "We can respond to oligarchy and authoritarianism with the strength it fears, not the appeasement it craves. After all, if anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him."
