Landry rushed to clarify he isn't resigning as governor of Louisiana and this will be, like, his side gig I guess. The state constitution explicitly bans state officeholders from simultaneously holding any federal office.
Trump says he’s appointing Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry as “special envoy” to Greenland.

Landry has previously expressed support for Trump’s plan to invade Greenland.

Like, you can’t even compare it to previous political satire because it’s so ridiculous. If Kafka were alive today he would be thanking every deity imaginable that he only woke up as a cockroach.

We have the worst person ever born convincing other people they can be their worst selves.

Today is the deadline to release the Epstein files. The DOJ is refusing to comply.

This is about justice for survivors and holding participants and co-conspirators accountable.

The Epstein Files Act is the law, not a suggestion.

Release the files. Immediately.

I keep saying this but no one is connecting the dots. The war is to satisfy legal preconditions for mass removal *domestically* of Latinos (i.e., suddenly a lot of people are going to be “Venezuelan” for purposes of removal). This is 100% Stephen Miller…oil claim is to make grandpa go along
There is no national security logic that would impel the US to want to do regime change in Venezuela. It's simply not that important. I'm not even sure wag the dog is the right metaphor for what's happening here. Seems like an insane misallocation of US national security assets and attention.

NYT columnist David Brooks wrote an op-ed a few weeks ago titled, "The Epstein Story? Count Me Out,” lamenting people are too focused on the Epstein scandal + saying "the QAnon mentality has taken over."

Today he appeared in 4 photos from the Epstein dump. Welp! www.huffpost.com/entry/david-...
David Brooks Said ‘Count Me Out’ Of Epstein Story, Then Wound Up In Epstein Photos
There's no indication The New York Times columnist did anything wrong. But wow, the timing of his column and the photo dump is unfortunate!

Your reminder that you now live in a country where there are concentration camps & two classes of citizenship, & that the fact that this has neither led to ongoing mass protests nor ended this presidency is proof that @tompepinsky.com was right way back in 2017 about exactly where we were headed.

They're shifting the balance of power among the top generals.

Consolidating the power under Hegseth.

It's the Praetorian plan.

It's no longer about serving America.

It's about enforcing the emperor's will.
Pentagon plan calls for major power shifts within U.S. military
If adopted, the changes would fulfill Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s pledge to disrupt the status quo and slash the number of four-star generals.

Last time they gasped and tut-tutted. This time, nada. Another unthinkable becomes the norm.
U.S. military should not be present as backdrop when the President - any President - launches into overtly partisan political statements. He’s free to do so, but they should excuse themselves.

The Constitution didn't change between Jan and Dec. But the purpose of pro-Trump legal writers is clear. To move birthright citizenship from the "Sphere of Consensus" to the "Sphere of Legitimate Controversy" so SCOTUS might feel better about taking Trump's side. Constitutional text be dammed.

I'm searching Getty Images and found some photos credited to the Boston Herald that redact the faces of ICE/federal agents. They don't redact the face of the guy they're arresting.

I'm curious about the ethics of doing this. I don't think I've ever seen this on Getty before.

Given that the Russians quite literally drafted our capitulation plan for Ukraine one has to wonder about whether there wasn’t at least a bit of cutting and pasting here.
"The Kremlin on Sunday welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump's new national security strategy and said it largely accorded with Russia's own perceptions, the first time that Moscow has so fulsomely praised such a document from its former Cold War foe."

Months ago (pre-purge), colleagues I respect cautioned me about sounding the alarm about threats to ACIP (and vaccine policy generally), lest it undermine/delegitimize those things needlessly. So I waited until June (after RFK changed COVID recs, but before the purge). Probably too late even then.

Simply amazing that the Supreme Court declared an end to legal race discrimination in the affirmative action case two years ago and now allows overt racism in both immigration arrests and redistricting.

Using race to help minorities? Bad. Using it to discriminate against them? Very, very good.
