Real quick intro for the newer folks.

I’m particularly interested in urban sensory ecology because I have auDHD and I find comfort in knowing that if wildlife can adapt to our noisy + bright spaces then I too can adapt (use the right accommodations) to be in overstimulating places!
wildalphabet.bsky.social
I’m a wildlife biologist with most of my experience involving the study and conservation of protected non-game species.

Broadly interested in how species adapt to multisensory pollution (light + sound) in coupled natural-human systems to persist on our very bright and noisy landscapes!

Just in case any of y'all thought they'd actually filibuster the appropriations bills coming with all the anti-trans provisions and shut the government down.

Call your senators, demand no anti-trans and anti-LGBTQ+ provisions in appropriations bills.

Maybe the weirdest part -- and there are many -- is that this is just a thing some ants do. Like, this is not the only ant that does this. This one is just that much weirder because the other species this ant queen creates no longer lives anywhere near here. EXCEPT WHEN THE QUEEN CONJURES IT. 🧪
joshlukedavis.com
woah this is genuinely, utterly WILD

Ant queens of one species produce males of another species, so she can then mate with them and produce hybrid workers!

This is so gloriously weird I can't quite compute it 🤯🧪🐜

🚨 ‼️

At 8:30 tonight, the South Carolina Senate Medical Affairs Committee quietly sent out an email announcing that on October 1 at 9:30 a.m., a subcommittee will hear public testimony on Senate Bill S.323.
A digital graphic with a headline reading “BREAKING NEWS” in bold white and blue text. Below, large text says, “SC Abortion Ban… here they go again!” A smaller blue banner reads, “The GOP Senate is back on their bullshit. They are bringing their total abortion ban bill (S.323) back for a vote!” The body text states that on October 1st, the Medical Affairs subcommittee will hear testimony from South Carolinians before voting to remove abortion access in the state. It lists harmful elements of the bill, including:
	•	No rape, incest, or fetal anomaly exceptions
	•	Felony charges for doctors, nurses, and helpers
	•	Criminalizes helping a minor leave the state
	•	Allows civil lawsuits against abortion providers or anyone aiding in abortion
	•	Allows lawsuits for “wrongful death” of an aborted fetus

At the bottom, the text includes the handle: @PalmettoStateAbortionFund. The design uses blue and white with bold, urgent typography.

Just a heads up. I was able to schedule my COVID vaccine appointment. Online it will ask “do you have a condition that puts you at high risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19 virus.”

Click yes and it will allow you to schedule an appointment.

No questions asked.

No proof required.

Pass it on.

Two innocent children are dead and the far right are racing to use it as pretext to further eradicate trans people. This mass shooting had nothing to do with the shooter being trans and everything to do with them being radicalized online by a nihilistic murder cult that worships mass shooters.

We are outraged and deeply distressed that armed federal agents came onto our campus—making arrests on the very ground where, in 1942, Japanese American families were forced to board buses bound for concentration camps. It was a deliberate act of provocation and intimidation.

This is legitimately insane. It's not an exaggeration to say this is actually a full on bathroom ban for trans people because they're banned from using spaces of their sex assigned at birth too!
Screenshot of text discussing draft guidance on excluding trans people from certain services. It states that, in some cases, a trans person could be excluded even if their biological sex matches the service. The text explains that exclusion might be justified to prevent alarm or distress to others, giving the example that a trans man could be excluded from a women-only service if he presents as a man and others might reasonably object, making exclusion a proportionate means to a legitimate aim.
