Graduate seminar did a deep dive on Thomas Paine’s Common Sense yesterday. At the line, “in America the law is king,” they (14 students from 6 countries) burst out laughing. I've been doing this for 35 years and this is the first time that was a laugh line.

The president should not be able to transfer millions of taxpayer dollars into his personal bank account. No government officials should be able to steal from the public like that.

Sorry to get so partisan, but that’s how I feel.
This is among the most corrupt things a president has ever suggested, and I hope the press treats it that way. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/21/u...

you know it is not at all difficult to acknowledge the legitimate concerns about the tattoo and still make a case for the candidate. but this would require maturity, a perspective outside ones own and a willingness to lose a little face, which means it won’t happen.

Idk I grew up constantly being menaced with "If you do (totally benign thing) and post about it on the internet, you'll be disqualified from politics forever!" and maybe we need to bring that back a little bit.

Here's the thing I don't understand. You can't as much as sneeze near a historic site in Washington without like 14 commissions, councils, and advisory boards giving you the okay. And everybody now is like...yup, fine with us? wtf?
NEW: After The Washington Post reported Monday on the demolition of the "East Wing facade," a new picture obtained by Law Dork that was taken on Tuesday shows that a substantial portion of the entirety of the East Wing has been demolished.

Yep. It's disqualifying, period. I didn't know what that was until I just looked it up so I can believe he didn't know either (blindly picking from an artist's flash is a thing), but it does nothing to negate that it's unequivocally disqualifying.
We're young, we're dumb but there is no way to avoid knowing the symbols. Especially in Europe. Could it have been a fascist tattoo artist? Sure. I would actually bet on it (just like fash bars which are everywhere, the people who frequent them have all manner of jobs), that's not an excuse

2/ Halligan was appointed pursuant to 28 USC 546, which authorizes the appointment of an "Interim" US Attorney for 120 days.

Once those 120 days are up, the "interim" lawyer is out & only the judges in the district can appoint someone to stay on the job.

1/ Thanks to Comey's lawyers, we have the appointment order for Lindsey Halligan in EDVa that the gov't has been trying to hide for weeks.

I think it means Halligan is not long for this job & the Comey and Tish James indictments not long for this world.

shocked to learn that the president lied about this and also this is a horrible defacing of a building that belongs to the people of the United States, not donald trump

Look, the Times was obviously unable to confirm at time of publication what the brown liquid that looked like diarrhea and that appeared to have been dumped from an AI-generated jet fighter by the president of United was intended to represent in his mind.
NYT sanewashing extends, apparently, to sparing NYT readers from a description of Trump's literal shit.

Remarkable and alarming thread about how the NY Times favors the Fascist state.
This is quite a hed/subhed.
1) Start with Vance. Use strong action verb. Accept the autocratic premise that the “Marines’ Might” are Vance’s to flex.
2) Mention the protest second and absurdly describe them as in the thousands
3) Treat Trump’s strong man use of the military as a partisan scuffle.

lol “No Kings” is such brilliant branding because Trump’s people are such inveterate reactionary shitposters that their only reaction is, can possibly be, “oh him being a king triggers you? Then yeah he’s a king, he should be the king forever.”

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

the crowd sizes are obviously the highlight here but the fact that *this* is the public statement of the NYPD does not bode well for the regime. or, put another way:

I do not regret to inform you that we are going to win
ZERO arrests at No Kings in NYC. (And the NYPD isn’t notorious for being sympathetic with people anti-Trump.)

This proves what shameless liars Speaker Mike Johnson & Karoline Leavitt are to slander the participants as violent anarchists.
