"The best defense against this weapon is solidarity among groups who disagree ferociously on many questions, but who agree on the need to keep America democratic and rebuild institutions and social connections to make democracy more robust. "

@himself.bsky.social talking sense, as usual. Notably: “The administration would have played its cards differently if it had a stronger hand.”

I don’t know about balanced. All the junk mail she sends out is very shiny, though. Maybe she should promote herself as the W10 candidate with the smoothest veneer.

I really believe that huge majorities of Americans don’t want masked soldiers shooting priests in the street. They don’t want naked children ripped out out of their apartments in the middle of the night and handcuffed. We win by making sure these stories get told.

The same people who insisted devout Catholic Joe Biden was leading a “war on Christianity” are now cheering Trump on as his armed goons assault clergymen.

WATCH: Trump’s lawless Ice goons shoot an unarmed priest in the head with a pepper ball. Completely out of control.

Love how the part touching the most of the Great Lakes is not in “Great Lakes.”

I think “Northwoods” is the answer.

Bridging my current life in Chicago and my past life in D.C., I argue today at @newrepublic.com that Democrats should ~never~ vote to fund this government. Make John Thune blow up Senate rules and Republicans wholly own the U.S. extra-military military doing war crimes against us, funded by us.
The Case for the Forever Shutdown
Senate Democrats actually allowing the GOP to stop funding the government is only the first step. Now they have to make the case that Trump’s government is illegitimate.

First, justice and accountability for the recklessness and corruption of this administration.
Then,

Universal Basic Income
Universal Health Care

No more piling work on top of people who are hurting and need help. Get them the resources and fund and staff the agencies to administer them.

It's spreading from city to city -- L.A., D.C., now Chicago. Everyday Americans will NOT bend the knee to dictatorship

I cannot understand what these people think the purpose of human life is?

It is *not* "pursue joy, deal justly, love well, try to understand as much and see as much of this beautiful world and of the deepness, richness and variety of human culture and experience as you can before you die"?

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

Really good people tend to gather in your mentions.

It wasn’t until you joined that I thought I could give up the other app for good and visit here each day. I hope more ⚽️ people continue to join.

I continue to think conditions and safety in the city would naturally improve if the mayor, and police officers, had to spent parts of every day walking around where people are, instead of hiding in city offices and cars.

Continues to be striking how, since Frey erected the greenway fence to Lake/Nicollet, the crowd has returned en masse to 2900 block of Blaisdell. Frey bleats “you can’t have encampments by home & businesses“ but that’s exactly where he’s pushed these folks. Meanwhile 50 housing vouchers go unfunded.

This is true for students too. Yes there are many factors impacting student reading, but working 30+ hours a week to be able to afford college is definitely one of them.
adapalmer.bsky.social
I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

Trump is now threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act to bully courts into letting his illegal military occupations proceed unchecked by rule of law.

Inventing a fake crisis wholesale to bulldoze what's left of constitutional restraints: Unhinged despotism.

Okay, then. Make him invoke it.

Love that so much.

I have some Boy in the Back Seat videos of that sort that I cherish to this day. (Mine just started college.)

Another mayoral forum.

Another empty chair where Mayor Frey should be.

We’re starting to sense a pattern!

At a recent forum hosted by community groups, Frey decided to stay home, unaccountable to our friends and neighbors yet again.

Luckily, @taylordahlin.com was there to document it.
Title text: "Another Mayoral Forum, Another Mayor Frey No-Show" above the text, "Minneapolis deserve a Mayor who shows up." All over a photo, credited to Taylor Dahlin, of Omar Fateh, Jazz Hampton and DeWayne Davis on stage at a forum next to an empty chair.

Wow. I remember looking at the pages of the Book of Kells on display at Trinity College in Dublin and thinking of all the work and the hard miles traveled (including over water) it had required to get the makings for each of those beautiful inks on the pages. Very cool that you and she do that.
