Carney's speech today had me wanting to snip quote after quote and post them, much as I would have done when I read Churchill's speeches. It will have a reach beyond Canada but I hope Canadians do read his words and rally around both the reality and the vision he laid out for middle power countries.

Prime Minister Carneys speech today essentially said:

A country is not great because of the size of its army or the depth of its balance sheets.

It is influential in the world because of the size of its heart and the depth of its mind.

This is the role Canada can and should take.

Struggle. Don’t comply.

To be fair, Douglas, the last time Carney tried to make a trade deal, you created a commercial that ran in the country he was trying to trade with and it ruined the whole thing, so maybe Carney just didn't want to get his heart broken again, boo-boo

49000 vehicles is a drop in annual sales and exactly what cars do they replace? teslas - in BC

The US companies capitulated and closed up shop

We need more industries - not just the auto industry dependent on the US

This is an opportunity

Just two points here, Marit:

1. Your statement is factually incorrect, there is no "guaranteed vehicle sales", the companies will need to do actual marketing and selling.

2. If these do sell, manufacturing plants will follow, as has happened in places like Brazil and replace closing US plants.

And it is “expected” investment within 3 years because ( as Carney stated clearly) this is to be a carefully controlled thing intended to ultimately give our auto industry a new direction for the market of the future.
