They believe it will happen to someone else, not to them and their families. Like biblical plagues. And make the world better for them when the rest of us are out of the way. 🦠

My publisher’s been very patient. I’m not doing everything I said I’d do to promote this book (out in a few weeks) because I’m an organizer in a city under federal attack. My days are full and emotionally exhausting. Any help getting the word out means a lot. It's a book people need right now.

MIT rejects "compact" proposed by the Trump administration.
MIT prez wrote: it "would restrict freedom of expression and our independence as an institution" and "is inconsistent with our core belief that scientific funding should be based on scientific merit alone."

What is it with fascists and massive arches?

Hitler had plans for one of those in Berlin, too. Unlike Trump, he could draw it for himself.

“Isn’t horrible that billionaires can’t just buy a university, fire all the tenure faculty, and remake it in their image like Bezos did with the Post?”

That’s the question posed by Trump’s Compact.
kzhill.bsky.social
Should the universities comply on syllabi and fake justice concerns, and keep the hospitals open for desperate people?

Or stand firm and let the admin force the closure of the hospitals?

You pick.

If it were me, I’d recognize that this is brinksmanship and let them try to close the hospitals.
kzhill.bsky.social
Here’s the dilemma for many university systems, including the univ of California:

the admin is threatening to cut them off from federal funding for university hospitals.

It’s like the Heinz ethical dilemma about whether he should steal meds he can’t afford for his wife who needs them. 🧵

I mean, hurt worse than the usual police brutality, wrongful convictions, and being shot with pepper balls to the head.

Somebody in the US is going to get hurt by their own government, to feed their desire for a liberal scapegoat.

My gosh. After the US bombed multiple boats in the middle of the ocean, murdering people on grounds that they were allegedly "carrying drugs," the US Attorney General says "Just like we did with cartels, we're going to take the same approach, President Trump, with Antifa."

This is…terrifying.

As I observed in my Substack Round Up this past week, the endgame of the military strikes against drug cartels in international waters is to lay the groundwork to use lethal military force against Americans at home. Pay attention open.substack.com/pub/asharang...

It was a higher than usual tide in the SFBay today.

Always fun to watch the ocean migrate onto the land.

Good to know about Toradol. I thought Dilaudid was amazing. But of course you can’t tell them what you need in the emergency room or they think you’re an addict.
kzhill.bsky.social
I feel for you! I only had one once. But I dread ever having one again.
kzhill.bsky.social
And, if you ever get an ovarian cyst, don’t let them mess around w the morphine. Useless go straight to the Dilaudid. It’s the only thing that works.

Ok technically it became available over the counter in the US in 1984. But I didn’t discover it until 1985 because no one thought to tell women with menstrual cramps that it was helpful. No one even told women that their cramps were a legitimate reason to take a pain med.

It was the Stone Age.

My hysterectomy at 50 should have been at 40! I was sleeping on towels to keep the bleeding from ruining mattresses, and was anemic.

Had to use NyQuil in college when my period cramps arrived because (get this) there was no ibuprofen in 1981-5.

it's really not a coincidence that culture writing is out and right-wing shilling is in. We are trying to change that at The Flytrap. Check us out:

Looks like B*ri W*iss will be shilling right-wing propaganda on CBS News. You know who doesn't do that and needs your support? The Flytrap! Here's our latest on @kneecapceol.bsky.social and their solidarity with Palestine:

Heather Honey, a high-profile denier of Donald Trump’s loss in the 2020 election, was appointed to a senior DHS position in which she’ll help oversee election security.
