mastodon got caught on their ass during the twitter exodus, not having any community staff to empower the different communities looking for a new place to engage. the fediverse nimby's were unsurprisingly hostile, especially to the black community as well as anyone who uses social to sell things

as a mastodon user, nothing culturally interesting happens on there. they took too long to make it easier to join and understand, and it cultivated a community of mostly highly technical people who seemingly want to be left alone. if they want the audience bluesky has, they gotta reinvent the brand

FWIW, not all female bosses on the Hill have bad reputations. Plenty of them inspire loyalty because they treat their staff well. Every Warren campaign staffer I know loves her. Patty Murray has a deep alumni team that admires her. AOC treats her staff well. Same with Tina Smith

wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
