“Someone” cancelled my family’s flight out of the country at the last second.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

Yes to this whole thread and: the point of understanding this context isn’t to diffuse blame but rather to impress upon all the breadth and depth of reform and repair needed.

Simply putting Dems back in charge doesn’t fix it. We did that twice already!

When the Orwellian named Dept of Homeland Security was created … MANY of us predicted that it would eventually be doing all the things that it is doing right now

Pinning it uniquely on Trump really misses the point in a bunch of ways

I understand this. Please tell me you do, too.

This video of Chicagoans intervening to save a man from being abducted off the streets by ICE is making the rounds on Instagram.

Do National Guard commanding officers not have a duty to not violate a court order?

After a federal court blocked his attempt to federalize the Oregon National Guard, Donald Trump is deploying 300 California National Guard personnel into Oregon. They are on their way there now.

We are taking this fight back to court.

This young person has gotten multiple warnings from state cops for defiantly moving into the street while most of the crowd has been pushed into “first amendment zones” on the sidewalk. Someone is playing “Springtime for Hitler” through a loudspeaker.
A protester holds a wooden shield in the street with the word “resist” spray painted on it.

These absolute fuckers. In any decent country they would be the ones in prison. But we are an obscene country.

Breaking news: ICE stops family at gunpoint—smash car window on top of newborn baby.

"I was screaming that there was a baby. But they didn’t care," cried mother.

“I covered my baby with my body—I was so scared he was going to be hurt because glass was landing on him."

Still thinking about this by the way paragraph in the Sun Times piece on the apartment building raid. Full story: chicago.suntimes.com/immigration/...
A similar raid was carried out in suburban Elgin, when agents led by U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem rode in a military vehicle and blew down the front door of a home where they detained six people, including two U.S. citizens.

Surreal moment for America. Needless to say, if the normal police ever pulled something like this — pulling every single person out of an apartment building and handcuffing them to run warrant checks — they would be sued into oblivion.

Yet ICE is going to get away with it entirely.
"It was scary, because I had never had a gun in my face," Fisher said. "They asked my name and my date of birth and asked me, did I have any warrants? And I told them, 'No, 'Ididn't."
Fisher said she was handcuffed before being released around 3 a.m., and she was told that if anyone had any kind of warrant out for them, even if it was unrelated to immigration, they would not be released.

Fun fact: Trust Employees (who work at Federal agencies but are not paid with Federal funds) generally have to keep working during shutdowns. But usually from home, and often their supervisors are Federal employees and are legally prohibited from communicating with them.

i made a helpful reference
top right: a fractured black rectangle where one half is labeled "autism is bad" and the other side is labeled "FACT CHECK: autistic people are productive members of society".

top left:
WRONG
-negating their frame reinforces it
-starts with what it isn't instead of what it is
- your argument is shaped like their argument

bottom right: large image of Kirby, a pink blob inhaling and the "autism is bad" fragment, labeled THEY'RE DOING EUGENICS

bottom left:
RIGHT
- you eat their frame
-starts with what's actually happening
-contains and explains what they're doing
-your argument is shaped like kirby

This is obviously a big generalization, but radical art and/or art made by radicals can sometimes be a bit "all brain, no heart."

That's one reason I've included Assata Shakur's "Affirmation" in just about every workshop I've facilitated. The HEART: thefeministwire.com/2013/05/affi...

where I grew up in north Missouri there were absolutely anti-seatbelt law people
-"I'd rather be thrown safely from the crash than trapped with fire"
-"I'd get whiplash instead of no injury"
-"I'm a safe driver"

saw fake buckle ends sometimes sold in truck stops to block a car from beeping about it

I read a piece earlier that said “imagine how MAGA would react if seatbelt laws were introduced today,” to which I reply: We don’t need to imagine
