First responders love this kind of thing
Much of SF lost power last night. Waymos blocked intersections across the city, even though they are Wayless than 1% of cars on the roads. They accumulated at their failure points--intersections with no green lights, in busy areas, and shut down traffic there.

A very good overview of a critical voting case set to be heard in SCOTUS next Spring. My law firm and I are defending this right for states to count these mail-in ballots from a lawsuit filed by the RNC. www.nytimes.com/2025/12/21/u...

Nothing to see here, just a right wing hyper-nationalist government going to their party’s youth event sponsored by a group with a martyred leader they’ve pledged to avenge, recruiting people to join their masked police force devoted to removing auslanders from ze homeland.

Unfortunately there's only one way to be sure that the summary of a text that an LLM gives you is accurate, and that's to read the text and verify it. Otherwise it's just an assertion based on faith that the LLM has at least your own level of skill.

They want the illusion that the more you use it the more you’ll be able to magically divine if it’s spouting bullshit, but even better if you stop putting in the time & effort to doubt it & double check… and then they have you. Then they can train the AI to give you the “truth” they choose.

This is my favorite version of the AI push — we don’t have any real ideas for how you should use it, but it’s not going anywhere, so you had better figure out a use for it and then start using it quick!

Uh, no. I don’t think I will.
Figure out how to use it. Ostrich mode will help no one.

Have you ever heard someone go off, and their words are so perfectly chosen, so well said in that moment, that you’re in awe? You think, “There’s nothing to add here,” and you applaud in your head.

That’s exactly this. Pure perfection. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Absolutely right.

AI might be able to summarize (poorly) what we currently know, but a major goal of historical research is to find the hidden surprises out there.

Let me illustrate …
Not a historian but like to research. The AI might summarize what I'm looking for, but it doesn't find what I'm *not* looking for. The book on the shelf next to the one I wanted. The insight in chapter 6 based on the quote I needed from chapter 4.

You may recall FL's extreme right-wing Gov Ron DeSantis eradicated every rainbow crosswalk in the state (ignoring studies that disprove his claim they're a safety hazard).

St. Petersburg is now repainting city bike racks—in rainbow colors. Love this.

Cue new explosion of anti- #LGBTQ bigotry ??
Ron DeSantis forced this city to remove Pride crosswalks. So it put up Pride bike racks instead. - LGBTQ Nation
The state of Florida has become the epicenter of Republicans' rainbow crosswalk crackdown. But folks across the state have been finding ways to fight back.

I've always wanted to get a picture of the sun setting directly above a sanderling

I could never land it

It's a complex shot since the sun sets above the ocean and the birds are BELOW the crashing waves

Even if you get it, you need to get multiple shots for depth of field

I came close tonight🪶 🧵
