If you see John Roberts in person, be sure to tell him he’s a worse Chief Justice than Roger Taney (pronounced “tawny”). That’s a nerd burn that will hit him where it counts.

#throwbackthursday from a trip to LA I did a year or two back (for a Wayne Shorter tribute concert at the Bowl, IIRC). I had picked up a fresh copy of a Bukowski book, then later started #drawing thematically to it in an over-the-top bonkers kitschy bungalow in the Hollywood hills. #artshare #art

#vinyloftheday one of my favorite 12" LPs, the last studio outing from #ScrittiPolitti. I really wish they'd put out something new, but Green Gartside and Co seem just fine in semi-retired/occasional UK or JP live gig life.

This is one of the reasons why I find a lot of valuations in the market right now incandescently incoherent.
The top-10 carmakers by market cap make up 75% of global passenger car sales.

Tesla makes up less than 2%.

The Tesla bubble will be widely documented in history books.

"Claude, the #albino #gator who was an iconic resident of the California Academy of Sciences and an unofficial mascot for San Francisco, has died at 30"

I've 'hung out' with Claude a few times at events at CAoS, and he was an absolute righteous dude.

I'll actually take this one step laterally; there seem to be plenty of center right people who have no issue being on and participating in Bluesky, with nary any issue at all. As far as I can tell it's not left coded, it's "being a grown ass person" coded, which I'm absolutely fine with.
The real question is not "Why is Bluesky so left-coded," the real question is "Why can't the right exist in a social media environment without algorithmic assistance, where people can ignore them"

This is insane, but a fun side note: former Overstock CEO and Maria Butina honeypot victim Patrick Byrne as been MIA (after his lawyer was arrested) in a defamation suit brought against him by Hunter Biden. A judge found him in default and Biden has filed a $33.3M default judgement request.

#art - It's not really a work in progress, at least not anymore. But I'm also not sure if it's a finished work or just something that is a state that is as good as it'll get. So here is "untitled" (mixed media, analog and digital) #artshare

No, #youtube, you clearly don't get it, because this is only hidden a few days before you re-introduce the same section(s) into the #UX flow again, and I hide it, again, and again.

It's yet another #darkpattern, much like how I hide anything with "Mix:" as a prefix on the main page.

"cognitive bias confirmation machine" feels almost too atomically on point. So concise yet so accurate that it almost hurts to admit. Not because it says something about the brilliance of its design, but about the sad (And avoidable) shortcomings of the species it's used against.
The two work in tandem to create a terrible synergy: people will believe images/video they want to believe while disregarding those they don't.

Congratulations to humanity for building a cognitive bias confirmation machine. 🥳
sorta coming around to the view that the social danger of genAI images is less that they'll make people believe fabricated things are real and more that they'll make people believe real things are fabricated
