For all his faults, it would be hard to say that Strategos Antipater the Usurper--or King Antipater, in his own telling--lacks for conviction in his own beliefs.

and in hindsight I have to give the JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM movie respect for managing to do the same trope without any of the weirdly misogynistic/sexy overtones that it usually comes with, antipater is just an earnest little snarl of filial piety and I love this for him

True, the Herodians (i.e. the Wuthering Heights of Caesar's toadie Antipater & his progeny) is an excellent pull right now b/c Herod I was born during the 3rd Servile War.

It's all in the names! We have John Hyrcanus, Alexander Jannaeus, Alexandra Salome, Aristobolus III, Alexander/ra, Antigonus, Aristobulus, Antipater.
