It’s so bleakly fitting the Marvel movies will end up in Trump 2.0 exactly where Nick Spencer’s “Captain America” ended in Trump 1.0.

With a new diverse coalition of young heroes being told to stand aside so Captain Greatest Generation can get his moment of nostalgic validation.
Captain America saving the day at the end of “Secret Empire.” “Steve,” gasps Bucky. A steady hand on his shoulder. It’s Sam, who was Captain America, but not in a way that was marketable to bigots online. “No— HE needs to finish this,” Sam states, so you can’t yell at Nick Spencer for marginalising a Black Captain America in this allegory for Trumpism, because he *chose* not to fight at the climax. Kamala Khan, not yet a mutant and so not yet marketable to the film division, waits in the corner of the frame, stoically.

It’s Hanukkah, so I’m going to repost the seasonal Marvel fan comic that @brandtandstein.com and @deezoid.bsky.social and I made back in (gasp!) 2018. I’m still awestruck at how great Ted & Ro and Dee’s art is in this. Enjoy!
Right this is four panels of a short eight panel comic. The conceit is that Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier, white guy at right in first panel with long hair and purple scarf) and Frank Castle (The Punisher, white guy at left in first panel with Rangers toque) are friends because they watch and mock terrible action films together. Bucky drags Frank to his relatives for dinner and Frank is surprised to find out they’s Jewish. He thought Bucky was Irish Catholic. Bucky hems and haws and describes a quick family tree and says he’s jewish adjacent but an elderly relative fondly berates him and tells him he’s a jew Bucky is told that because his mom was jewish he’s a jew. And he speaks hebrew! Bucky demurs that he speaks hebrew because science nazis injected like 14 languages in his brain. The family’s tween daughter, listening in, is like “can I have science nazis inject it in my brain so I don’t have to go to hebrew school” and everyone is like “NO”. Bucky still tries to say he’s not worthy / not a good jew and the elderly relative is like “no you survived and you never let your light die, also there aren’t many jewish superheroes and we’re keeping you, tough luck, grab the shamash, it’s time”
