Question for the Elder Nerds: I played a lot of the Infocom classics, but I never played Deadline. These days I have limited patience for dead ends and repetition, but I do love an interactive mystery. Has it aged well?

Trinity is a wonderful meditation on the origins of nuclear weapons and the horrors of nuclear war.

It's one of Infocom's best and most important adventure games and also one that could never be as effective depicted visually.

Give it a try!

So Microsoft owns Infocom’s property rights? We can finally get that Hitchhiker’s sequel then?

Zork's journey from MIT's mainframe (MDL) to microcomputers was a technical feat. The use of ZIL (Zork Implementation Language) and Infocom's unique dev process allowed complex games on limited hardware. A masterclass in resourcefulness. #GameDev 3/6

40 years ago, Paradroid was on ZZAP!'s cover. We rated this amazing game 97%. Other top reviews: Little Computer People Discovery Kit (97%), Epyx' epic multisports sim Winter Games (94%), Wizard's Lair (89%), Hacker (87%), and Infocom's stellar Starcross text adventure (94%).

I liked this game with the running clock (a few min pass each time you type something). I Have 3 copies. Cutthroats was released 40 years ago on Aug 9, 1984. Written by Michael Berlin & Jerry Wolper it was Infocom's 13th game. You are a diver who wants to search an old shipwreck site for treasure.

Infocom’s attempts to squeeze a second Hitchhiker’s game out of him, or failing that the game he *said* he wanted to work on instead, are the stuff of legend or at least very in-depth blog posts

100%!

Infocom not only had the right idea for how to make text adventures really function as interactive fiction, but upped the game way beyond the Adventure clones being produced by devs like Scott Adams.

Magnetic Scrolls is the only company that ever came close to matching Infocom's polish.

The Lurking horror was released 38 years ago today on May 6, 1987. It was #Infocom's 26th All Text game and written by Dave Lebling. Alarming events at G.U.E. Tech soon lead you to finding a powerful evil within the pits of school. #Commodore #Commodore64 #C64 #Retrogaming

The Wishbringer (1985) stone was one of Infocom's more popular "feelies." The plastic stone glowed blue/purple in the dark after exposure to strong light. I wondered if mine would still glow after 40 years... it sure does!

Beyond Zork is one of four of #Infocom 31 All text games that they did not release on the #C64 but instead on the Commodore 128. This was because Infocom's new EZIP interpreter needed 128k of RAM and an 80-column display.

I've always been fascinated by Infocom's Moonmist. A murder mystery in a haunted castle! Sadly, despite some neat ideas and a great setting/backstory, the game itself feels both nonsensical and way too thin.

Played on an IBM PC with an IBM colour monitor.

This particular one was from Infocom's graphical era, which is weird in and of itself.

yeah! that one got credited to Adams and to the Infocom's collective pseudonym, iirc, because the project got passed around from imp to imp due to-

it sounds like Douglas would have made an excellent friend, or acquaintance, but a fiendishly difficult co-worker/co-author on-deadline. relatable.

Level 9 Computing's Silicon Dreams Trilogy wasn't as well-known in North America as Infocom's text adventures, but they're surprisingly engaging experiences today.

It's also one of the earliest series from the 1980s to feature a female protagonist - the awesome Kim Kimberly!
