#Ravenor
I loved Dan Abnett's Eisenhorn and Ravenor books! They're good pulpy fun, though constrained by the IP of it all.

Have you ever read any of those Warhammer 40k novels? I’ve always wanted to try one but I’ve never taken the plunge.

Ciaphas Cain novels are very tongue in cheek Warhammer novels. Excellent stories but told by a war hero Commissar who's basically a coward.
Also the Night Lords trilogy is excellent.
I also agree Eisenhorn/Ravenor omnibuses are some of the best novels from 40K

Oh yeah I'd count that, in that case though if you liked Gaunt's Ghosts, Eisenhorn. It's Dan Abnett doing what he did for the Guard with the Inquisition, just making up a lot of foundational lore on how the Imperium is. It and Ravenor eventually lead into the Bequin books so good reading for Pariah.

Yep, I loved Eisenhorn and thought Ravenor was even better. Excited to hear your opinion!!

Eagerly awaiting the hate reads comments that trickle into Bluesky 😅.

This is otherwise very well organized and I’m pumped for you to read the Ravenor series. It’s been so long for me that I don’t remember a lot of detail, but I can tell you those are my fav 40k books.

You're in for a treat. The Eisenhorn/Ravenor series are a perfect slice of what I love in the setting.

We've really come a long way from "read Eisenhorn and Ravenor and see what you think." These, The Twice-Dead King, The Infinite and the Divine, Spear of the Emperor... it feels genuinely insane to say but at least half the best scifi books I've read the last few years have been Black Library.
As 40k gets more mainstream and you're intrigued by the setting from stuff like Space Marine 2 or Secret Level: PLEASE check out the novels.

The setting is so much more than "rah rah space marines," and guys like Chris Wraight and @noahvannguyen.bsky.social are quietly putting out S-tier sci-fi.

Dan Abnett's Eisenhorn trilogy. Funds will also be made available for tv spin-offs of every short story and the Ravenor and Bequin trilogies.
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

Hadriel has a lot of experience with doing cartography from when he was in the military. In situations where they were working in unknown territory, he could astral project (thanks ravenor), get the lay of the land, and then commit it to paper.

i think a big part of what's charmed me about ravenor is that 80% of what he does is just this

Mm, I have to say my deuteragonist, Ravenor! He earned my main oc's (Muffin). respect by slowly doing good deeds, like helping the ones in need, saving her from certain death, sacrificing himself for the sake of the solar system and life itself! At first he was a scum, parasite and a good for nothin

Is this a book by Gideon Ravenor?

If I had infinite hobby money I'd cosplay Ravenor and just nap around in the pod while voice clips played via the voxponder...

Excellent choice! Eisenhorn > Ravenor > Bequin is a good way to start.

Dan Abnett’s Ravenor/Eisenhorn stuff? That’s very good and gets the feel of the universe across but this is the Vaults of Terra stuff which is proper grim dark Grand Guignol fun about the heart of the imperium. Deep as a puddle but enjoyable nonetheless romp

I've read the Ravenor novels, haven't gotten my hands on the Eisenhorn omnibus yet. Dan Abnett is one of my favorite authors who writes in that universe.

From memory Ravenor is darker and waaay more messed up 😈

Finished Eisenhorn, just started Ravenor.
Loved Vaults of Terra trilogy.
I only got into W40k this year
