Was just regaled with the tale of the time former Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy did a presser in front of the beluga enclosure at Mystic Aquarium and then got upset that he was upstaged by a beluga. Which, frankly, strikes me as kind of the most likely outcome to a presser held in front of belugas

For decades, belugas were stars of marine parks, symbols of wonder and progress. Today, 30 whales remain in captivity at Ontario’s now-closed Marineland, their future uncertain as public attitudes toward animal welfare have shifted.

« Les bélugas ont de nouveau été désignés en voie de disparition en 2014 par le COSEPAC après avoir été classés comme étant menacés en 2004.

Si [la population] allait bien, elle aurait dû augmenter dans les 40 dernières années et ce n’est pas le cas, fait valoir M. Michaud »

"These Arctic-dwelling cetaceans have an organ on their foreheads that’s referred to as the melon. It has long been a source of fascination to scientists, who’ve proposed a variety of theories over the years to explain its presence."

It's great discovering that the man who would serenade us with songs about baby belugas and lost duckies on VHS as toddlers can be justifiably indignant.

In a way, it shows how much he always cares for his worldwide kids.

I’m crying. Sent this to all three of my grownup belugas.
check out the 40th anniversary re-recording of Baby Beluga, Raffi has been trying to tell us and it’s time we listen 😤💪🙌

This was not something I'd expected but cool. If orcas can be radicalized, so, I wager, can baby belugas.

No one gets squished by Belugas. I am not even sure that they eat. They kind of just sit there all the time going "durrrrr".

Here is my drawing of a beluga whale doing what beluga whales do.

Happy Monday. If you take the train to Churchill MB to see the polar bears, a lot of the journey will look like this. This is morning sunrise after a good sleep on the train north from Winnipeg - winter is for polar bears (be sure to check out the bear jail) and summer is for belugas. #BlueSkyMonday
