Yes but mandate CRTs. LCD and OLED panels don't build enough character or trip enough breakers.

Here's a tip. I had this 21 Sony wega since 2023. The colors started to decay and green was predominant.
I thought maybe the tube was getting old but not. Today I replaced the main RGB chip in the neck board and my 21 Sony wega is perfect!
Now I have two really nice crts hahahaha

horror is embodied in the technology that you encountered when you were three years old and it was full of wonder and menace. Crackling radios with mysterious voices and glowing dials. Massive CRTs with white noise static. The harsh ring of a Bakelite landline phone, or a dial tone or busy signal.

I've never worked on an Atari MEGA ST2 setup before, and I hate working on CRTs. So obviously, this Saturday's noon stream will be working on @kefkafloyd.bsky.social 's SC1224 monitor which has lost its red.

ESPECIALLY if your source isn't high definition.
Pixelated game footage intended for CRTs? Old cartoons that were stored at broadcast TV definition in some warehouse for 20 years?
No, no, no. Stop this shit lmao

idk how he didn't break teevee. it was one of those giant old CRTs and sat mounted in a cabinet on the far side of the room so no danger of knocking it over i guess but the glass must have been an inch thick because he got some good shots in

Goddamnit, I've got *6* crts in this house, along with all the lightguns for PlayStations, Xbox, Dreamcast, Saturn, Nes, SNES, Master Sarster, Spectrum, Grandstand, etc and I'd STILL be tempted by this for the living room, if I wasn't off work and stoney broke. Probably just as well.
Spent a week playing Time Crisis using the new "G'AIM'E" light gun console, and yeah, I think plastic guns are back, baby.
Big review here, and it includes some thoughts on whether it'll revive the light gun genre given that you can't add more games to the box. www.gamesradar.com/hardware/ret...

G'AIM'E Time Crisis Lightgun console has gloriously revived my favorite arcade shooter, but I'm worried about the genre's future

It's absolutely irresponsible that they'll let me use Photoshop and CRTs. I could rearrange your memory of old TV and you wouldn't even know

As our beloved CRTs are slowly getting old and probably need some care sooner or later, here is a DOS software for those of you, who do it themselves:
github.com/unclejed613/...
It covers pretty much everything, best tool I have seen so far.

What's the CRT for sandwich-throwing, and what gives you a DRM or a column shift? (Also, I'm glad that CRTs have made Wikipedia. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat_...)
It's not in this article but the government asserts that the sandwich was thrown at "point blank range", which implies subway sandwiches have defined effective weapon ranges of varying lethality, and I would like to see the government's chart of these ranges.

this is actually what people should do with CRTs instead of hoarding them and then only playing them for youtube videos talking about CRTs

I probably should have plugged my B+ into my CRT for this photo - didn't realise this post would be so popular! That's the best way to play these old games, I find; CRTs have such a lovely glow to them.
As for 4K, that sounds like a good job for RGBtoHDMI. I don't have one, but I hear good things!

N³. A modern PS1 game, running on S² FPGA console, feeding analog CRTs? That is niche cubed and we're here for it.

we are talking to each other from either colorful imac CRTs, or absurd all-white tower PCs that make enormous amounts of whirring noise
outside, cars are making that grinding sound you don't hear from modern EVs/hybrids

Sci Fi tech is usually just a reflect of what's going at the time of the stories creation. I love seeing shit like big ass crts, landline telephones, and GameBoys still out there in space

I will give some credence to how legit better games made for crts looked on crts than they do on modern screens, so a lot of wanting to (re)play them now has to do with playing them at least as good as they looked back then instead of actively worse, but…
Yeah, play the products of their times.

So much of “wanting a remake” is not wanting to play an “old ugly game”
And tbh, it’s a brain rot that’s ruining gaming

Always odd to me that people say they desperately want remakes of Metal Gear 1 and 2 on the MSX. I know people want the story and all that, but especially with 2, if you make that 3D... you just end up with Metal Gear Solid. Like, so many of Solid's scenarios are just lifted straight from MG2

"The N64 works fine."
"That's good!"
"But the mod is botched and it only outputs audio through RGB."
"That's bad."
"But composite works fine!"
"That's good!"
"It's a US console and your CRTs don't support 60Hz through composite."
"That's bad."
"But you can probably fix it."
