It's been a while since I'd had a chance to work on my Manitoba wiildlife poster, so I dug out the snapping turtle to work on this evening. A ways to go yet, but we're making progress. #SciArt

The bottom right of the map features a beaver and great gray owl. An American white pelican flies in the middle with a yellow-headed blackbird to the west of it. A bison peaks around the western border with a prairie skink and red fox behind it. North of the bison are a black bear and elk. East of them near the blue Lake Winnipeg in the middle are garter snakes a little brown bat and a black-capped chickadee. The southern part of the province features a snapping turtle, monarch butterfly, tiger salamander, deer mouse, loggerhead shrike, redhead duck, bumblebee and a white-tailed deer. In the lake are a walley, lake whitefish, and goldeye. The eastern portion of the province features a luna moth, white-throated sparrow, bald eagle, moose, wood frog and a small group of Canada and snow geese. The centre north is filled with a lynx chasing a snowhoe hare, wolf, raven and Harris' sparrow. The northern coast has an Arctic fox, willow ptarmigan, beluga whale, and polar bear. Lastly, the northwest corner has an American marten, barren-ground caribou bull and a wolverine. Some are in colour and others are just outlines waiting to be painted.

Last week, I visited some nearby bogs, including my local bog. From the first bog, we have a White-Throated Sparrow and a Red-Breasted Nuthatch.

White-throated Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow, and Dark-eyed Junco

Any good birds? Ours was pretty light on lots of usuals (no ducks, no geese, few hawks, few white-crowns, no juncos, no owls).

Best bird was a white-throated sparrow.

I did make the Vegas paper, though.

This morning there were three White- throated Sparrows in a crape myrtle bouquet. I didn't know how many were around since they mostly stay in the shrubs by the porch making soft tink sounds. 🪶

I have an overwintering white-throated sparrow visiting regularly. They do occasionally stay over in SK instead of migrating down south. This fellow has a habit of stopping by very early in the morning, or after sunset, before the local house sparrow mob arrives.
