New research by Pierre Azoulay, Danielle Li, Bhaven Sampat and me.

Earlier this year, the President’s budget proposed a 40% cut to the budget of the NIH. This motivated us to ask: what if the NIH had been 40% smaller?

We have just concluded the all-team retreat for COS. As a fully remote team, this opportunity to connect and strengthen relationships is the most important event of the year. It was an amazing week with an amazing team.

I am getting a lot out of this exchange about p-curve -- both on the substance of the debate, and on different approaches to thinking about it. Thanks to Uri and Richard for such an interesting back-and-forth.

Simonsohn has now posted a blog response to our recent paper about the poor statistical properties of the P curve. @clintin.bsky.social and I are finishing up a less-technical paper that will serve as a response. But I wanted to address a meta-issue *around* this that may clarify some things. 1/x

Zombie movie idea. Infection symptoms are highly heterogeneous: from becoming mildly irritable to going full zombie and from lasting a few days to persisting. Little clarity about time course for any given case. Psychological drama.

This post brought to you by news distraction coping strategy #72.

Am I the only person who forgot that academia.edu existed until it came up in several posts during the last few days about its updated terms and conditions?

Academia.edu is changing its Terms and Conditions, and they're so outrageous (AI training; signing over ownership to them etc) I closed my account today.

A thread with some practical tips if you want to delete your account (5 steps):

The research question in that case was about what occurs when designed are standardized (with domain expert recommendations) versus unstandardized and left to replication authors' own judgment.

The model enables active evaluation of the factors that you suggest it ignores and eliminates.
