Donald Trump’s deployments of the National Guard to American cities “are best understood as an effort to erode the nation’s sense that such use of the military is unacceptable,” Quinta Jurecic argues.
Trump Is Destroying One of America’s Oldest Traditions
America has always had a strong aversion to seeing the military on the country’s streets. That is not stopping the current president.

This has nothing to do with crime. This is an attempt to crush political dissent.

Never before, in our entire 250 year history, has the military or immigration agents been used like this. It's dystopian, illegal, and it should stop.

The same article includes a reference to an @swp-berlin.org paper that does not exist.

There are many ways AI can support research, but just letting it write your articles with fake citations certainly is not the way.

And here we go. I never wrote this article, and yet it is cited here.

And of course, it sounds so plausible, I seriously checked whether I had forgotten it, or the footnote was slightly wrong.

I have been flummoxed by Bari Weiss heading up CBS news all day. It’s not jealousy. I don’t want that job. I am not qualified to do it. I just don’t understand how this is possible.

it is genuinely shocking how much rage @jay.bsky.team and the devs seem to have for their user base. suspending Erin Biba over an old post just because she’s been criticizing you is deeply fucked up. fix this shit.

👉 In sum, citizens react to a wide variety of group appeals, but there is much heterogeneity in their responses. Our results indicate that social identity, and especially deservingness perceptions, are key to explaining this variation!

This discussion yesterday with @rgoodlaw.bsky.social on the Trump Administration’s extraordinary use the military at home and abroad is even more relevant today. As is our consideration of whether some within the executive, and the courts and Congress, will resist.

Jane Riley for CA asks about the duration of the new TRO. Immergut replies that it would expire in 14 days [notwithstanding further order of the court]....

For DOJ, Hamilton asks court to rule on motion for stay.

Immergut: I'm denying motion for stay and administrative stay.
annabower.bsky.social
Immergut: What I'll do is not modify my original TRO but issue a new TRO that prohibits the relocation or deployment of any federalized national guard to the state of Oregon....
