It is not clear what is behind the move by Michael Ellis, a Trump loyalist. A legal ethics specialist said it could raise conflict-of-interest issues.

That the @washingtonpost.com can’t keep @crampell.bsky.social around is damning. Anyone familiar with Rampell’s work would know that it would be compatible with WaPo’s intended editorial direction. But she didn’t want to be compromised. Good for her. www.semafor.com/article/10/0...

"Honesty" when it comes to narrative fiction is hard to be empirical about & it's easy to get overly precious about it, but almost every criticism I have of the show stems from Sorkin being dishonest or forcing his characters to be dishonest, either for plot / stakes convenience or to channel Sorkin
pjacobs.bsky.social
A sin of the West Wing and a lot of other Sorkin content (tho not all!) is that his deep seated belief drama can only really come from people making two equally justifiable arguments (even if one is obviously the hero & one obviously the villain) doesn't map well to American history or politics.

What is your 2025 take on The West Wing (1999-2006 tv show)?

I do suspect that a lot of discourse on here is probably driven by not using the nuclear block as much as this site used to tbh

Yarvin convinced a bunch of credulous tech billionaires that they needed to back an extreme, dumb, & wildly unpopular politics to “save western civilization.” We’re now getting that politics on steroids, and now he’s all “oh no, these policies are unpopular, must flee the country to save ourselves.”

mencius moldbug is thinking of fleeing the country because he thinks the trump administration's chaotic half-assing of dismantling liberal democracy is going to bite them all in the ass

There was a time when gutting social security was considered the third rail of American politics. To the point where politicians who planned to gut it went through tremendous efforts to disguise that's what they were trying to do. Curious to see how popular this time it turns out to be.

Donald Trump is plotting to cut Social Security benefits for older Americans — after he promised during the campaign that he wouldn’t touch Social Security.

We must call it out and stop these cuts.

I have friends who are still on twitter and they asked me if I knew why Musk seemed to be suddenly boosting anti-Netflix content all over the app's algorithm. I am *not* saying it's because he found out this was coming. But it'd sure be funny if it was.

Tiny fossils called foraminifera lie buried in marine sediments.
Their shells display astonishing diversity from spiraling forms to chambered clusters and even architectures that resemble miniature buildings.
But what if this morphological variety could be explained by only a few simple rules? 1/n
