Danielle Allen fails the Lando test / lives out the Arrested Development meme: "A deal on the core principles in a compact could then become a framework for negotiating on legislation." Come ON. With this administration and this Congress?

"[W]hen those who oppose white supremacy find it cloaked in respectability, it is much harder to defeat.... Wittingly or unwittingly, calls for civility can dilute efforts to dismantle white supremacy." - Sarah Frohardt-Lane

So say it, Hegseth.

President Truman desegregated the military in 1948. That would be when the “wokeness” began, huh?

Say it.

Trump: "We won World War 1. We won World War 2. We won everything in between. We won everything before. And all of the sudden they decide to change the name. They went woke then too, you know. Woke is a long term. Word."

Since it was unseasonably hot today, we fired up the grill to 450 degrees for spareribs and chicken wings and then added macaroni and cheese and roasted vegetables to compete the “it should be autumn but it still feels like Summer” meal.
Charcoal grill temperature gauge at 450 degrees. Spareribs Roasted vegetables, macaroni and cheese, grilled chicken, and grilled ribs.

This is fascinating. I will have to send you my working paper on reimagining burdened individuality and abstract inequality as social science concepts and how they help us push past the limits in modern social science work dealing with race.

Today I realized the following: As we descend into the Vichy United States, you might as well bake pound cakes and build Legos while you still can…

More of a general ethos than people would think. But then again it explains a lot, especially with respect to Black nationalism vs Black conservatism.

We are literally teaching in a TL;DR mindset that assumes summary is mastery.

The halftime show is crafted for artists who have peaked a few years ago— or who at least have a body of work that is about a decade in. That’s how you get someone ~everyone~ knows (more or less). They are not trying to be cutting edge. This isn’t anywhere near Coachella.

I want to be clear: there is no need for military troops on the ground in the State of Illinois.

Ding ding ding!!! 🛎️

There is no such thing as a causal method. Everything depends critically on the assumptions made. Greater credibility applies if you can directly test all of the assumptions necessary for a causal interpretation, but that is more often the exception than the norm.

And, therefore, there can also not be hierarchy of methods, because it depends on the specific case whether the assumptions are fulfilled.

It’s not the method that makes you causal it’s the assumptions

An important part of racial segregation in public accommodations (that economists and economic historians regularly miss) is that it was NOT about racial animus. It’s about dehumanization and debasement. It’s using the public sphere to tell people that they are is not fit to walk the Earth.

The Green Book Project is a fantastic resource for anyone trying to understand the full weight of the Jim Crow era, and how segregation —not of homes and where Black families could live— but the segregation of everything.

With everything going on, and all of the bad news and tragedies we are witnessing daily, it’s important to find the things that bring you joy and peace. #Lego never fails, and this Gameboy set was a joy to build.

[The details are amazing, for those of you old enough to remember these things!]

*The corporate owner took down the story and edited it
*The journalists resigned

This feels like more and more of our media now.
