Democracy Docket has a reporter in the courtroom covering the Texas redistricting hearing every single day. Meanwhile, the big legacy media is nowhere to be found.

At stake are 5 congressional seats. If this matters more than both sides journalism, become a DD subscriber today. hubs.ly/Q03M8rql0

I don't think we'll ever get another sentence which sums up everything the New York Times embodies quite like "Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians".
mattcameron.bsky.social
hey @nytimes.com: there is no counterpoint here. There are no credible legal experts who would EVER say that the US military has any right or authority to blow civilian craft out of the Caribbean and kill their crews from afar without any provocation. There is no other side to this question.
"Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians not directly taking part in hostilities, even if they are believed to be smuggling drugs."

Honestly think the only way to solve the condescension problem is to stop insisting that we have one. It's very obvious why your opponent would call you condescending for being smart and right; stand up for yourself!

Klein is also obsessed with solving Democrats’ “condescension problem” but it’s not condescending to talk about how your political opponents are wrong! That’s kind of how it works.

This was revealing. Worth reading. The basic demand is that Coates spend less time thinking/writing his true feelings and more time playing political strategist. Klein asks him over and over him to do Dem strategy; he says no, over and over. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/28/o...
I’m sure these are salutary, but the decline in trust in science is purely ideological.

"All I can say for me in the work I do is that I want to create a space that takes our disagreements seriously, that takes the stakes of them seriously, the consequences for people seriously, but does so without deepening our divisions irreparably. We are going to have to live here with each other"

Remember that Mussolini did not actually make the trains run on time. He benefited from some modest rail improvements instigated by his predecessor, and then intimidated the press into saying how great the trains were when they actually weren’t. professorbuzzkill.com/2022/01/10/m...

"Humanity now faces the existential threat of a leviathan with three heads: a steadily worsening climate crisis, increasingly deadly pandemics, and an unprecedented weaponization of antiscience that renders us helpless in our collective efforts to address any of the great challenges we face."

The ideologically-motivated assault on science threatens us all.
