🚨 New Review: Sources & Fate of Atmospheric Micro- and Nanoplastics (AMNPs) 🌍 Excited to share our latest review on AMNPs, focusing on their emission sources and environmental fate, and how these insights can improve global modelling 🌐.

💡 Why it matters?
1. Current emission estimates vary by up to 4 orders of magnitude ⚠️
2. Huge gaps remain in understanding transport & deposition 🌬️
3. better data + better models + global coordination = more accurate models = better policies 🗺️

This study was funded by the Manchester–Melbourne–Toronto (MMT) Research Fund. @The University of Manchester

🤝 Thanks to the first author, my PhD student Fei Jiang, my collaborator Prof. Arthur Chan (MMT Fund University of Toronto Lead), and all co-authors for their contributions.

🚨🆕📄 New paper out! How can we connect numerical simulations with real-world measurements? 🤔 We propose a machine learning/deep learning foundation model using pre-training (on particle-resolved simulation data) and fine-tuning (with limited real-world data) to estimate aerosol mixing states🤖
Integrating Simulations and Observations: A Foundation Model for Estimating the Aerosol Mixing State Index
Accurately predicting aerosol mixing states in real-world environments is crucial for understanding their impacts on climate change and human health. However, observational data inherently exhibit spa...

One of the best lists of questions for a PhD viva or defense that I've seen.

Thank you to the original author Rebecca Ferguson (@r3beccaf.bsky.social), then a research fellow at The Open University, now a professor emerita.

We're in the process of specifying the long-overdue overhaul of our web presence. Regarding the supersite live feeds, is there any functionality people would like to see? Please don't expect miracles, but I'm interested in hearing ideas.
