The absolute bloody vandalism of austerity in one chart. Good analysis of the overall picture here.

When Baroness Mone of Mayfair gave her inaugural speech in the House of Lords - a chunk of it consisted of her quoting Whitney Houston's Greatest Love of all.

And you need to watch it.

Now.

After World War II the US had a scandalous secret program to smuggle in Nazis who had skills the country wanted. Trump seems to want to bring in neo-Nazis from Europe openly and *because* of their views. A new low... www.nytimes.com/2025/10/15/u...

Make your plans for #NoKings. This Saturday, October 18th.
Free speech is action. Protestors believe that action has meaning. Protestors are exercising the rights enshrined in the Constitution. For me, protest is about love of country.
I'll be there. Please join in.

I wonder if David Lammy has any regrets about his friendship with this fascist?

It's somehow both wildly underreported and just out in the open that the vice president is either a neo-Nazi or, at a bare minimum, a neo-Nazi fellow traveler.

Fascinating. Politico notes that when notified of the texts, many state-level Republicans fired or condemned these cretins. Now Vance emerges to excuse the racism, and calls the reaction to it "pearl clutching."

He seems determined to purge the party of its last enclaves of decency.

I think one of the biggest cleavages in our society that no one talks about is the division between those that think powerful people must be held to a higher standard than non-powerful people and those who think powerful people should be flattered and sucked up to.

This is the result of a lot of people pretending racism is one of the greatest taboos in our culture while failing to address racism substantively. People are appalled by the idea of being called racist while being totally committed to upholding racism throughout society.

Every time a Democrat gets caught on tape saying like “Some Trump voters are racist” we have a national scandal and JD Vance demands an entirely new kind of apology and meanwhile every Republican group chat is like “Good morning fellow SS members. Who’s ready to respect Hitler today?”

Just need to acknowledge it can't be "done better" now.

The collective term for ladybirds is a loveliness.

Have you noticed that ladybirds have been taking advantage of the dry, sunny conditions to find a sheltered spot to hide for winter? The summer's warm conditions are responsible for this autumn's ladybird explosion.

'In the past few weeks three new applications of AI have landed that could each have a profound impact on our shared reality: OpenAI’s new video platform, Sora; the scaling of a virtual companion called “Friend” and Meta’s push to import its advertising model into chatbots.'
Big Tech deploys Orwellian doublespeak to mask its democratic corrosion | Peter Lewis
As AI asserts its power to shape social evolution, regulation is decried as ‘state control’ rather than the expression of our collective will

An "A-level standard of English" ≠ an A-level in English.

Possibly we're looking at level B2 but the announcement is lacking sufficient detail to appraise the policy.

So far, this appears to be all about tough-sounding headlines. We should expect better from this government.

Last June, more than 5 million Americans joined #NoKings rallies across the country, protesting President Trump's authoritarianism. And this Saturday, with your help, it's going to be even bigger and better.
